Hi Laura
This is a common problem when series are started anew, without reference to how entrants were
referred to in previous series'
I think the approach should perhaps be to make more of SW.
A number of SW users have set up a master file of competitors which is added to after each series.
This master file would also have basic set up information for a series
When you start a new series, simply save your master file as the new series & you have all the
competitors in the correct format, along with some basics of club racing.
Later versions of SW (are you still on 1.5??) allow for competitors to be excluded so you don't have
the problem of DNC etc being a value in the 100s.
As a member enters the series for the first time, they can be un-excluded.
Again, later versions of SW have multi-column sorting so excluded competitors could be sorted so
that they don't get in the way.
Also, when merging a full year's series' it may be worth moving the merged file off the network on
to a C: drive on a fast machine
Taking 5 - 15 mins to rescore soon gets a pain after a few edits to data ;-((
Anyone else got extra suggestions?
Colin
FYI, Laura et al tend to publish to Excel because of the issues of publishing in IE
Regards
Ralph

Subject: RE: [sailwave] Merging
Hi Laura,
Merged all our years races for the laying up supper - a v large
spreadsheat - 15 A3 pages was the result. But there were several
entries for some people where they had signed on in a different way
and been recorded in different ways eg l harwood, laura harwood and
even spelling/data entry error such as l harwwod.
Is there any way of merging competitors?
In excel?, not sure, I dont use it much. But there do seem to be some excel
experts in the group who can perhaps help you.
Colin
