At the West Lancashire Yacht Club a minimum number of races have to be
sailed to qualify for a series.
In Sailwave terms they would either have to have a result or a code for
"came to the start line and started".
Is there a way of getting Sailwave to indicate those competitors that
qualify for a series. The way I'm using it at the moment it draws a line
through DNC codes whether or not they have sufficient races to discard.
Many thanks

Hi Kit,
Interestingly enough I was just about to post a message about qualification
requirements because I'm a bit confused by it.
What is the idea behind qualification? is it just to encourage turnout? I
ask because it's not part of Appendix A and there are other (easier) ways to
achieve the same thing.
Why move away from Appendix A is I guess what I'm asking... Is it because
Appendix A is inadequate for long series. Any feedback/insight from the
group appreciated.
NB: setting DNC=999.0 points (say) encourages turnout...! - and as far as I
can tell has the same effect as a qualification requirement.
Regards,
Colin
Hi Kit,
I do all the results for Burghfield SC and have set the DNC value at 100 and the discard values at 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,2,3,4,5, for counting 7races out of 12 sailed. This means that (unless you have very large fleets or lots of discards) when the series is scored, at the end, all the qualifiers have less than 100 pts - all the helms who have missed qualifying by 1 race have a 100+ pts, all the helms who have missed qualifying by 2 races have a 200+ pts etc. I find this has 3 main advantages over the nomal DNC = No. in series +1
1. You can see all qualifiers at a glance (ie less than 100 pts)
2. People can easily see how more races they need(ed) to do to qualify (ie 234 pts means 2 more races to qualify)
3. People can compare results against all the other people who have sailed the same number of races (ie all the people who have (for eg) 200 + ? pts)
Hope this makes sense and is of some help to you
To see this in action have a look at [www.geocities.com/bscresults](http://www.geocities.com/bscresults)

P.S. Just thought, if you have big fleets so that someone can qualify but still score more than 100 pts maybe you could set DNC = 1000
