Mixed Fleets

Hi all

I have a small problem in that I have a race whereby 7 fleets of mixed boats are doing the same course. We have three starts the first has 4 fleets the second has one fleet and the third start has two fleets. When editing the Race, Starts 2 & 3 I can select the fleets and enter the competitors but start 1 has only provision for 3 fleets if I enter the 4th fleet in one of the "and' Fields it eliminates the fleet opposite.

Can anyone advise how to get around this problem

Cheers
Wayne Nolan

Wayne:
Go into the Sail Number Wizard, Edit Race and add another start.
You can have 3 fleets starting all recorded in one start or you can
have 3 seperate fleets all recorded with the same start time but
listed as 3 fleets.

Thanks John:

I can set up the starts ok but one has 4 fleets. The problem arises when I want to enter the competitors in each start. Start 1 has only provision for 3 fleets, if I enter the 4th fleet in one of the "and' Fields it eliminates the fleet opposite, the one on the left in the same line, and therefore not all competitors I require are entered in the first start.

Is there away around this problem or am I doing something wrong?

Cheers Wayne

I obviousley did not explain it very well.
If you set up another start, you can now have upto 6 fleets all
starting at the same time, set up a third start, you can use the same
start time, you can now have 9 fleets all starting at the same time.
Do not use the "and" boxes.

Think of 1 fleet in each start. You can have any number of starts all
with 1, 2 or 3 fleets, they can all have the same start time.

Wayne/John et al,

The actual expression that you see constructed after using the '3x3' user
interface is in fact completely generic (i.e. Sailwave can handle an
arbitrary number of 'OR'ed (and/or 'AND'ed) together fleets (etc) - it's
just a matter of designing a UI that will allow the user to easily generate
it; together with the necessary parenthesis; all ideas gratefully received.
I could also have a different sort of expression that is in fact a list of
competitors - but then if you add a competitor you have the painful task of
adding him/her to starts - whereas with the expression methods it's
implicit.

nb: I could leave the expressiom editable (it's read-only at the moment)
with helpers to insert "AND", "OR", field=value etc - this would be easiest
for me - a bit like outlook rules etc - with the things that can be changed
underlined in blue. Perhaps have N ways of doing it and use the one that
suits the context/user...

This expression editor is now central to using Sailwave so it needs to be
much slicker.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Anders,

No it doesn't - that's why the UI into the start expressions needs work to
remove the '3x3' limitation which is only artificial as previously
explained - i'm tending towards a rich text solution...

With "Place" results, Sailwave uses the starts to decide the next place when
using the SailNo wizard (and Edit+Result), so splitting up a fleet into N
starts will result in different sets of 1,2,3 etc - exactly what you do when
modelling flights in fact.

Regards,
CJ

Cheers
Wayne Nolan
