I score with Sailwave for several different events, who all have their own
website. FTP data seems to be related to the program and not the blw file,
so each time I upload a different set of results to a different website I
have to remember to change the global FTP info, easy but annoying, because I
invariably forget to check which one is set up first time round. Anyone know
of a way to tie this to the respective blw file?
Thanks
John
Hi John,
Ftp details are stored in the registry of the PC being used as you would not normally want to send the connection details and password to the website to other users when sending them the results. Normally you would also be using the same server for all your results so you wouldn’t want to set it up for each file.
You can see the structure of the registry setting in the Help - Edit registry settings. This is not the recommended way of changing these values please use the Setup but if you are a programmer you could write a program that would change these to a selection of presets
Jon
Jon,
John's requirement is to have the ftp settings associated with the scoring series, so if he does scoring for club A, club A's ftp settings are used, similarly for club B and club C, presumably with each club using a different server.

I agree this would be really useful. It was on my todo list for ages (make the existing tab in global settings a list of ftp sites - click to edit etc) but never got round to it.

Hi Malcom,
Perhaps I didn’t explain my answer very well. As I understood what John was asking. He was asking for the ftp details to be associated with the series. What I should have said is although that would be easy, I don’t think it would be a good idea to store them in the blw file as you would then be giving your username and password to anyone you send the blw file to.
Colin’s idea of having multiple ftp sites presumably stored in the local registry would improve the situation as you would then be able to select the one to use without having to re-enter the details. This would be effectively the same as the simple program I was suggesting in my previous post. Although you could then try and auto allocate the ftp site to one of the presets but this could get difficult and perhaps confusing if the blw is shared with different computers, even of the same user say Tablet, Laptop and Desktop. Perhaps the best solution would be to store the ftp path in the blw and the username and password for that path in the local registry.

I send results to different servers, but I don't use Sailwave for this.
I save the results to a file on my PC, then use Filezilla to do the transfer. In Filezilla, I have setup the connections to the servers and I select the connection to be used for each transfer.
Instead of modifying Sailwave, perhaps this way would be better for John?

Hi Malcom,
I must confess I usually do the same except I use CoreFtp lite. Usually I just publish with Sailwave to a file and then open the file in a browser and ftp the file to the server at the same time. This does have the advantage that you can also ftp other files such as a backup of the blw and modifications to the index.html when I change the menus
