Dear friends,

I wonder if it would be easy to use a different language instead of
English, for example Greek.

Is there any solution for this issue?

Hi John,

Sailwave has a 'locale' facility such that users can translate the user
interface into another language. Some locales are available from the
download page, but not Greek. See the locale documentation on the Library
page of the web site for details about how to create a locale (very
straight-forward). It would be great to add Greek to the collection... Let
us know if you have any queries about the process; there are some very
experienced locale writers here...

Thank you for your reply. In fact, we have no problem in user
interface, we can handle english with no problem at all. Our question
is whether we can use greek in writing greek names (competitors),
because it's much more better to see greek names, especially for
young athletes. Is there any way to see greek names in the program?

Dear Colin,

Sorry to bother you again, but we want to be sure that we could use
the alteration to RRS A 8.2 (Tie-Break rule). Is this alteration on
your next plans?

"When a tie in the series points between two or more boats after
application of RRS A 8.1 still remains, it will be broken in favor of
the boat with the best score in the first race in which the tied
boats raced and scored differently".

OK I see. I've always assumed (incorrectly by the looks of it) that Windows
handles that; i.e. you install the necessary font variations on your
computers to allow you to write in Greek. Can you write in Greek in
applications like Word and Notepad etc on the same computer? Are there some
fonts that work and some that don't...? Is anybody out there knowledgeable
about this sort of thing. I chose Tahoma as the UI font because from what I
could gather, there were more regional variations for Tahoma than anything
else...

Hi John,

It's in the dev plan for the next release. The release has been held up due
to 'real work' pressures. To confirm, your version of 8.2 is the same
strategy as the standard except that you work from the front of the series,
rather then the end of the series; is that right?

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition (English version) and Office XP
greek. I write in greek in Word and Notepad and I'm using greek fonts
like the ones the programm uses i.e. Arial greek, Times New Roman
greek, etc. As far as I can see, the program uses only Arial, Times
New Roman etc. Is there any way to use the greek versions that I 've
installed as well?

Hi John+John

I have managed to get the charset stuff working so if you input data with
the Greek locale (As in Windows locale EL) it now displays as Greek chars
(hurray), instead of some weird chars or ?.

Thanks John H for your pointers.

This is a halfway house. Changing to a UNICODE data structure would be a
huge job whereas utilising font charsets allows me to keep it plain old
ascii.

Support is now included for displaying:-

USA+Western Europe
Eastern Europe
Apple Mac
Japenese (Shift-JIS)
Chinese (GB2312)
Taiwan (BIG5)
Korea (Hangul)
Korea (Johab)
Greek
Turkish
Vietnamese
Hewbrew
Arabic
Baltic
Thai
Cryillic (Rissia, Belarus, Ukraine, etc)

To enter the chars in these languages, you need to install the appropriate
locale in windows - I've been experimenting with Greek.

Should be available this weekend...

The charsets are hard-wired at the moment (to the standard Windows set) so
if you install one that is not in the list you can't use it - i'll extend
things later to ask windows for the list of installed charsets.

Dear Colin,

I'm trying to work on translating and creating a new greek locale,
which of course will be send to you, but I'm facing the following
problem;

when I translate and write a word in greek, I get strange characters
in the user interface. I use Windows XP Home, both english and greek
language.

Any idea what's going on?

Hi John,

That'll get resolved by the charset stuff - continue as you are doing (if
that's OK) and when you choose the Greek charset in version 1.56 (available
tomorrow) the weird chars will turn into Greek. Yours will be the first
locale for a non-ANSI character set. I'll extend the locale syntax to allow
the specification of a charset at some time so that it's auto.

which of course will be send to you, but I'm facing the following
problem;

when I translate and write a word in greek, I get strange characters
in the user interface. I use Windows XP Home, both english and greek
language.

Any idea what's going on?

Just give me some days and I'll send you the greek locale. God, it's
unbeliavable! We have a perfect software for our job! Till now we
have been working in a dos program for editing results- it was so
difficult and time spending...
