Our club at the moment assigns a straight PHRF rating per boat, and also assigns a Jib & Main (JAM) rating for the very same boat. This is because we have skippers who swing both ways (but at different events). There is another club at our lake who use a bunch of equipment offsets (old sails, etc) in their intramural program, but when they host a regatta they use the straight ratings.
What I want to be able to do is set up a regatta with multiple divisions. Then I want to tell the DIVISION which rating to choose for the boats assigned to it. So for a JAM Division, I want the JAM rating always chosen and if some boat hasn't got a JAM rating to declare an error somehow. This other club will want to maintain three sets of ratings, the two "normal" ratings plus their intramural rating. I see that some scoring systems like Portsmouth support multiple ratings but I don't see a way to support multiple PHRF ratings. Have I missed something simple?
Our current software (QuickScoreRace.com)supports this idea directly. Does this seem like a useful feature to anyone else?
I would be interested to have more details of your JAM rating. I seem
to remember that PY handicaps used to include an optional allowance for
boats inspinnaker classes who chose not to fly them. Does this still
exist?
