We have just completed the Thames Frostbite and although I am not on the
committee, I still try to think of scenarios where Sailwave might have room
for improvement.

The Frostbite is essentially a race down the Thames and back again the next
day. Leg 1 is on Day one and Leg 2 is on Day 2.

The problem is that Yachts have to navigate through the Thames Barrier under
power, from a position 500 Meters before the barrier, to a position 500
meters beyond the barrier. At the beginning and end of these sections, there
is a committee boat that takes the times each yacht passes this point.

The time taken to pass between these two points is deducted from the elapsed
time to only show sailing time in overall results.

Would be nice if There was an easy way to get sailwave to produce the
results of such a race but to also show the times taken to pass the barrier
as times excluded from the race.

The results for this race can be viewed at

http://www.cruising.org.uk/frostbite2005.htm

Regards
Terry

Why not enter a start time for the boat, equivalent to the time taken to motor past the barrier, as
a time past a theoretical midnight.(i.e if it takes 18mins to navigate the barrier, enter a start
time of 00:18)
Not sure if SW can display start times, but if not, no doubt there is an html program guru out there
who could show you how to set up a template which printed the start time (barrier time), total time,
then net elapsed time.

Sailwave will do something similar to what you want using the accumulated time feature.

You will need to setup four races each direction.
Race 1 will be from Start to the upstream side of the Thames Barrier
Race 2 will be from the upstream side of the Thames Barrier to the downstream side
Race 3 will be from the downstream side of the Thames Barrier to the Finish
Race 4 would be an accumulation of Race 1 and 3.

Setup a spreadsheet with columns for Start, Upstream Side, Downstream Side, Finish Times, plus sail number, etc. Import into Sailwave for each race specifying the correct combinations of times to use as start and finish time for each race.

Hi!
I've been looking for a solution for the Norwegian Laser club, to have a ranking system like:

("Number of competitors in race" - finishingposition + 1) * Category = rank pts.

Category varies from regatta to regatta, and can be 1 to 4.

This points out to be a "high point system" because if you wins a regatta with 20 boats and weight/category=4, you should have (20-1+1)*4= 80pts. Number 2 should have (20-2+1)*4=76 pts

So, I tried to use "custom high point defined by a list of expressions" set to: s-p+1. Then I set weight in each regatta, but a high weight gave a low point..?? So, I found out that for High point systems, SW divides points with the weight.... And multiplies for low point systems... Is this correct? I tought it should have been the other way around.... Anyway, I could have solved my problem if I was alowed to divide by 0.25 i.e. set the weighting to 0.25. But, I was not allowed to make the weighting lower than 1..?

Any suggestions?

Use the expression you have and multiply by 24.

Then set the weighting of the races Edit Race

to 24 for factor 1
12 factor 2
8 factor 3
6 factor 4

Thanks.
What's the deal here? I tought the formula was going to be: Custom HighPoint / weight. And now it is (myexpression*24)/factor.....

So, if I had a factor 5... Should I then set the weighting to 4.8, or should I find another number to multiply with ??

Anyway, thanks again! It worked.....!!

Hi Martin,

I'm not sure I follow that. You can enter a point expression something like
that to score the points for individual races, but you mention "overall
series ranking" and that the bit I don't follow. can you provide some more
detail...?

Hi Terry,

I would agree with Mark that the 'leg' fcaility in Sailwave should help here
(if not get back to me and we'll sort something out). It allows each leg of
a race to be entered into Sailwave as a separate (Sailwave) race with a
final race accumulating the previous legs (or a selection of them). See the
Edit+Race details. Thanks for the feedback and the thoughts; it is
appreciated.

Regards,
Colin
