Hi Colin,
I'm wondering if there is a better way of doing what I'm doing.
The situation is as follows.

Our club races are run under a PY system, but we also run results on IRC for those that have certificates.

We also have an annual coastal racing series that is run for all clubs in Cornwall (COGS). This series has prizes for PY and IRC aswell as an overall by giving the IRC boats a PY. These is also a 2 handed prize fo those that sail two handed.

The IRC yachts I add in twice. Once with PY and the second under IRC and then score them as two fleets. This means I then have to put finish times in twice.

Is there a way that I can do this without having to double enter? If not, is it something that could possibly be useful to others?

Great product!

Regards,
Andy.

Andy,

Me too!!!

We have to do the same for our races. In our first race of our
Winter Series, a boat entered in:
  • Super 30
  • Australian Measurement System
  • IRC
  • Performance Handicap

To do this, we had to enter it in 4 times - that's OK because of the
import facility.

However, we have to enter 4 finish times which is a pain and subject
to mistakes.

Hi Andy / Mike,

As long as your rating files have the ratings for all the boats for each of
the rating systems that you want to use, you can select a rating system and
then use the tools menu to update the competitor ratings based on that
system. You can do this and then score for each rating system that you're
interested in. Not ideal because it does not handle race-specific ratings
but it should work in your contexts..?

It is on the dev plan to allow the ratings to be specified for every rating
system in the competitor field so that you can do what you want *and* the
series is portable to another machine with relying on rating files.

Hi Colin,
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately they only all have PY, and less than half have IRC.

I like the reporting format (see attached) that can be derived from the double entry method, but, as Mike points out, its easy to make mistakes.

If it were possible to set the same tally number for each instance of the same boat in different classes, or maybe update all records with the same sail number with the wizard it may be a quick solution, but I guess it may break the way others are using it.

Andy.

Hi Vinci,

Would it be an option to use the Texel Rating system? As it happens,
a large number of cruising catamarans have been rated using this
system: the developer of the TR system is an avid multihull cruiser.
The list and a lot of explanation about the system can be found here:
http://www.ctcnederland.nl/texelrating2003eng.htm

If your boats aren't in the list, the Rating committee would welcome
new boats into the system and calculate a rating based on your
boat's specifications.

Should you decide to use the Texel Rating system, I'd be willing to
convert the rating numbers into a Sailwave ratings file.

Best regards,

I've been thinking about this some more.
I could use 2 series files. one for PY, the other for IRC.
In my case all yachts have PY, but nogt all have IRC.
If I was then able to export race results (start and finish times) from the PY series into the IRC series, mapping race names and sail numbers, that would do it.

What do you think?

This can be handle 2 ways - using aliases and in the next release using multiple ratings. If you're using 1.58 or a 1,58 beta you cna use aliases.
