Awh. shoot... I did not want to stir the pot up this much.

Since the work here is more a labor of love then financial boon, Colin should do what interests him. I seem to remember that he considered developing a club management front end to sailwave and got as far as defining a web site before he noted that others were developing these tools and he put the project on the very back burner.

Unlike Huw, I personally, I think that adding the utility to log times while on the water is consistent with Sailwave's mission as a regatta scoring program and my vote in the poll reflects that nuance. (I also dont run very complicated regattas)

For what's it worth. I have had a hell of a time getting clubs in my region to consider a regatta management program. CHANGE is not easy for many volunteer organizations and when you run an event once or twice a year with different volunteers in charge... the tried and true paper and pencil seem to be the way to go.... (Plus you get to be the martyr at the bar afterwards for all of your hard hard work.)

FYI
US Sailing offers an online registration and payment service as does www.sailregattas.com I am not familiar with any other vendors.

Thanks Colin for all of your excellent work.

As a NRO a full race management system would be great, but first let us get a race scoring system fully operational before we deviate any further.
I have expressed in earlier emails the majority of Sailwave Users are the every day sailing clubs that have a varitety of boats, classes and skippers and their needs apart from scoring races quickly and efficiently and publishing the results on the club notice board, is to have some form of personal handicap to give the variety of people sailing every weekend individual competition. Just like a golf handicap where the beginner can sail against the champion and on a good day beat him on handicap.
Cheers

Hi Wayne,

In 1.74 (but download 1.75) there is a tool to assign personal handicaps
based on an expression and a few variables including the back calculated
rating from the previous race. Currently it's manual and the variable
repertoire is small, but requests for specific variables can be done quickly
and automation can evolve. Currently it uses the race-specific rating
field. It's primitive but a step forward...
