new subscriber/ assistance

Hi,

I need help for using sailwave for more reasons:
1. I am a beginner inracing administration,
2. English is my second language therefore I have difficulties
understanding short terms like: PHRF, SCHRS, SY,RN,RR, CN,TN,etc.
3. In my country the PYS is not used - we use Yardstic numbers like for:
O'DAY22 116, Star 98, etc.
YS I: Asso99= 81; Soling = 100; Dehler34= 99; Bavaria 42= 94;
YS II: J24= 103; Seawolf26= 107; Dehler28=104; Dehler25= 110;
YS III: O'DAY22=116; CNSO = 117; Sunbeam 22= 114
Could I use them just by putting one '0' to the numbers like 1160 for O'DAY
and 980 for the Star? I think yes is the answer but please confirm.
Kindest regards
Zsolt Regenyi

Hi Regnyi

What is your formula for calculating corrected times?

Hi,

I apologise for not addressing you by name but I am not sure how I should
address you, Zsolt or Regenyi. Here in the UK we tend to use first names
(Huw) not family names (Pearce).

PHRF - Performance Handicap Rating Formula (typically used in the USA)
SCHRS - Small Catamaran Handicap Rating System, usually refers to ISAF
scheme; there are others such as Texel
PY - Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Primary Yardstick, i.e. best )
SY - RYA Secondary Yardstick (next best)
RN - RYA Recorded Number (next best)
RR - RYA Return Required (next best)
CN - Club Number (next best)
TN - Trial Number (worst)

The RYA each year ask clubs who are using yardstick numbers issued by the
RYA to make a return based on the races that they have run during the last
twelve months for each of the classes racing their club the yardstick number
that that club thinks should be used for that class. They RYA then take all
the yardstick numbers return an assess them to produce a new set of
yardsticks for the following year. The scheme and process is all documented
in the RYA publication YR2 - The Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme.

The yardstick numbers that you are using in Hungary are similar to those
that used to be issued by the RYA a few years ago before they changed to 4
digit number to save having decimal numbers like under the US Sailing
handicap scheme.

To use your Hungarian numbers in SailWave you should be OK adding a zero to
the end because the standard equation is

Calculated Time = Elapsed time x 1000 / yardstick number

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Huw,

My first name is Zsolt , thanks for your detailed explanation I am sure I
will need it in the future, too
We use first name in every correspondence in the Net and among sport fellows

Hi Zsolt (sorry - got it wrong last time)

That is the same formula as USSA PN so you can keep your numbers and select
the USSA PN rating system (and change the column heading) or, as Huw said,
use RYA PN system and add a 0 to your values.

Colin
