Hello, I am a virgin as far as sailwave in concerned so please treat
me gently. I am curently scoring my local Solo fleet at my club. We
have a series of 20+ races with 7 to count (10 races sailed so far).
Can you tell me what I need to enter in the scoring section so that it
counts the 7 best results for each competitor as this bit is confusing
me. Also can I download the later versions than 1.57 and if so
where. And finally is to possible to publish the results direct to
printer?. If a direct reply can it come back to
frankbrown1@ntlworld.com. Many thanks Frank
Frank, There is an FAQ on the sailwave website that is very usefull and answers most of your questions.
Under scoring systems you will find a tab labled "Series Scoring", you need to change the discard profile so that you discard all but the best seven races. Therefore after the first seven races the number of discards keeps increasing by one every time you have a race. The profile would therefore be. 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,etc. After 20 races you can discard 13 races.

Further to Mark's comments, what happens if 'n' of your 20+ races are blown off? For example, if you only hold 15 of your series of 20+ is it still 7 to count, or less? Sailwave can handle this too (you guessed ): if you hover your mouse over the discard profile (Edit, Scoring System, Series Scoring tab) you'll see a short explanation - more in the FAQ. Use of an expression can help to show the position if all the following (as yet unsailed) races were blown-off, which some sailors prefer to see rather than count a stack of DNC's (which they discard as more races are held.
Finally, if you are only doing (relatively) simple stuff (eg not flights ) I'd stay with v1.57 to get the hang of things, then join the smart lads finding all the bugs (sorry Colin, opportunities for improvement) in the latest beta version when you know your way around.

When entering data in sailwave, hitting enter on a box allows one to enter
race finish times etc. However sometimes the race details are on the right
hand side of the screen and the boat name is on the left hand side of the
screen. This makes it awkward to determine whether you have the correct row
selected for entering details.
Could I suggest an option to allow the selected row to be slightly coloured
so the whole row stands out to make it clear which is selected.

Yes I can do somehting like that. The selected competitor also shows in the
bat across the top of the cells and in the status bar has you move the mouse
around.
