New to Sailwave

Is there a " how to get started" page I can download so that I can set up the system to my requirements? I have read through the FAQ but that doesn’t tell me anything that I want to know. How does the system calculate handicaps? If say a yacht misses the start can the system leave that yachts handicap as it was and not adjust it for that race? Can the move up or down for the handicaps be limited?

Hi Bob - Welcome to Sailwave. There is a good user guide http://www.abyc.org/upload/Sailwave_ABYC_User_Guide.pdf supplied by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. This however does not cover progressive/personal handicaps, which I guess is what you are asking about.

This is a big topic in itself. Sailwave supports the RYA NHC progressive/personal handicap system Natively but it also supports virtually any system you like by the use of an Excel template, to define the rules. Using this system the scorer does not use Excel they enter their results into Sailwave and publish their results from Sailwave but Sailwave will use Excel to calculate the new handicaps but this is automated. Someone though has to supply a template with the rules for calculating the new Handicap rating. As well as the built in calculations for NHC there is a template supplied to use the External Excel method. I suggest you have a play with the NHC using the sample file to get an idea how it works. To answer you question with NHC 2013 / 2014 if a boat does not compete then their rating is unadjusted. However using the 2015 proposed system it would change. But of course if you use the Excel template system then you are in complete control.
