It cannot do automatic personal handicapping calculations yet (although
users have managed to do it with the race specific rating value). But it
can do corrected time calculations, based on elapsed times and race
distances etc. Can you be a bit more specific about your requirements.

A is usually 650 and B depends on the weather/conditions. Use 550 for
average. For heavy air the number goes down and for light air the number
goes up. Many areas that have done analysis on their location and races
have specific numbers that they like to use. In the Puget Sound Area of
Washington State (Pacific Coast) they use 520 for B. This was decided after
doing analysis of 75 regattas in the Area. We recently had a weeklong
regatta off the Vancouver Island and used 550. There were a few days that
we could have increased the number for light air, but decided to use the
average for the whole week.

I am a member of the Darwin Sailing Club who use Top
Yachts at present, however this program causes much
angst amongst one of our fleets in which we sail a
mixture of trailer sailors and fixed keel boats. If
you search for UTYA Association you will find this
groups website and you will be able get an
appreciation of the type of boats involved.
I am attempting to find a user friendly program that
will produce both Class and Performance results. From
what i can see Sailwave will certainly handle the
Class results for us. However from a performance point
of view i am looking for a program that will
automatically adjust a boats rating after each race
whether it be in a series or from series to series and
race to race. From what i can see Sailwave does not do
this or if it does i can see how it does it.
I must point out i am a bit of a novice when it comes
to handicapping systems so it could be i am not
understanding what is in front of me.

Hi David,
You are right, Sailwave will apply a handicap/rating to an elapsed time and
produce a corrected time but there is no provision for automatic update of
the rating for the next race - essentially a personal handicap like scheme.
However it is on the ToDo list and I am being pushed fairly hard to do it.
I am loath to give estimates because Sailwave is a hobby and I work on it
when I can.
Sailwave does however have a race specific rating facility. In Edit-Result
there is the capability to use a rating specific to that competitor/race,
instead of the one on the competitor record. This can be used to score
personal handicap events but you have to get the values into the race
specific rating field. Some users have done this via excel and then
importing the data, but if you have a auto solution already in TopYaht that
doesn't sound like a good route.
I'll move Personal handicapping up the list a bit; keep and eye on the group
for progress and if you're still around when the time comes input from you
about your specific requirements would be useful.
PS: I thought Top-Yacht was the bees-knees of scoring programs - the guy
charges a fair but for it as I remember..
