New User Questions

As a brand new user, I have some questions in how to get started. I
did try searching the archives but could not find out what I was
looking for. I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

I am trying to use Sail Wave for the first time and need some
assistance. I am scoring a fleet of RC Solings.

We sail 8 races per race day and will race 10 days (10 weeks). We
score and publish the daily race results (8 races combined results).

I have two divisions: A and B. The are scored separately never combined.

I need to know how to set up sail wave to be able to get daily results
(8 races) and series results (10 weeks), for each divisions.

We use a high point system: First place gets a score of the number of
boats in the race (N),second place N-1, etc, until last place which
gets 1 point. DNS and DNF get 1 point also. How can I set it up to
do this?

I did see where I can use codes to do specific things like giving the
RD the average for the series.

Any help will be appreciated.

First, is each day of 8 races treated as it's own series in an overall
series of 10 "days"? The difference if if you want to throw out a
bunch of individual races or throw out whole days.

We score in a similar fashion using each nights races as it's own
series and using the average for the night as one "race night" in the
overall series. We do this because we never know if we will have 1,
2, or 3 races in a night and a person missing a single "night"
shouldn't be punished for the loss of 3 races. The throw outs are
done on a nightly basis letting a person throw out 1 night in 6 or 2
nights in 9 depending on the series, no matter how many races we
managed to get in.

Either way I have yet to find a way to merge the scores of high point.
The program has a bug that brings in the scores, but it places them
in the "place" portion of import. I built a scoring code that copied
the RDG format allowing me to put numeric scores into the overall
series.

Give me an e-mail if you desire a copy of the files we use and if you
have AIM we can arrange a time to chat and I can chat you through a
sample scoring.

Thanks for the reply!!

To answer some of your
questions. We do not have throwouts. We do not penalize those that
dont show up to race, they keep their running average score. DNS’s and
DNF’s get last place points (1) with no additional penalty.

So yes each day, 8 races is scored as a series, I think (im not sure of
the correct terminology). So I post scores for each race day which is
the combination of all 8 races. Then each week I come up with an
combined average of all days raced, which is the result for the season
which trophies are based on.

I would like help constructing a scoring formula where the first place
boat gets points equal to the number of boat in the race and each
finisher gets one less point. Last place gets 1 point.

Hi Peter

Look here

www.sailwave.com/help/HTML/high_point_expression.htm

With a bit of patience, I managed to get this to work but unfortunately, & cannot find the Sailwave test files I created :frowning:

I seem to remember that one problem I had is SW cannot handle tie breaks on equal high points, because the basic program breaks ties on positions

I came up with a solution by writing an SI which established that if there is a tie break, it would be calculated on positions (not points) & SW then deals with it
