For those of you who use Sailwave on Linux, I am the app maintainer on the Application Database at www.winehq.com. This basically means I'm the guy who lets people know how the application works on WINE for Linux.
I just updated the version on the AppDB and gave Sailwave 2.8.5 a "Plantinum" rating for compatibility with WINE - the highest rating possible. That means the application basically works on WINE identically as it would in Windows, with no bugs specific to the installation on Linux.
I want to make sure I got this right. I can validate the application on my Linux distribution (Linux Mint 13 64bit), but without installing other Linux distributions, I can't test it on other versions of Linux.
If you are using Sailwave on Linux, please let me know. I'd also like to know what version of Linux you are using, what version of Sailwave you are using, and whether you have seen any problems with operation of Sailwave on the platform.
Thanks again to Colin and Jon for all their hard work on this application, and particular thanks for their willingness to ensure that Sailwave continues to work properly on non-Windows platforms.

I have briefly tested Sailwave v2.8.5 on the following Linux
environments, all 32-bit.
SUSE Linux 12.1 on proper hardware
Gnome 3.2.1
Wine 1.5.2 downloaded from WineHQ and installed
Comments - WINE desktop comes up when Sailwave
started, plus when closing Sailwave .BLW and
prompted to Save or exit the text does not show. I
will investigate further when have a few moments.
Mint 13 LTS running as VM in VirtualBox 4.2.6
Cinnamon desktop
Wine 1.4
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Unity desktop
Wine 1.4
When I get a few moments I will see if I can install a couple of
other Linux distributions ( Fedora 18, Centos 6.2, Mageia) in VM’s
and report back. Looking at DistroWatch the top 5 distributions are
currently - Mint, Mageia, Ubuntu, Fedora & openSUSE - so if
these were used for testing plus perhaps CentOS (Redhat), I would
think that would probably cover most of the likely distributions in
use by Sailwave users; may only really need Mint/Ubuntu! So Sailwave
users on Linux what distribution do you use?
Kind regards,
Huw

Having done battle with the RYA PYS website for my club for the last few years, I have found the best way of the PYS page picking up the correct boat configuration for cruisers is to include them in the class name.
Hence “Hunter Sonata (0|S|C|D|OB)” instead of “Hunter Sonata”.
Now this works fine with PYS which identifies the text in brackets as the configuration.
The problem I have is that when I publish the results for upload to our club website or for printing on the results board in the clubhouse, the config is included in the results. To make matters worse the ‘|’ are taken as line breaks and so the results look really messy.
Can anyone come up with a nice solution to enable the info in brackets to be discarded during the publishing?
My current alternative is to manually edit in notepad which is not ideal.
Could you use another (unused) column (e.g. Division) for publishing local results (hiding Class) and hiding Division when submitting to RYA { or vice versa } ?
