NHC and saving variable inputs

Have been experimenting with Sailwave helper, and I am starting to grasp how it works.

I am proposing that for a dinghy club personal handicap series I am going use the Club NHC mode, with dual scoring so as to give the club's "normal" PY results and a personal handicap. The aliasing system is in use and the Personal Handicap alias will have it's base value set by way of a guesstimate. It will then move race by race as controlled by Sailwave helper.

So far so good.

I need to speed up the rate of adjustment using the factors in cells T2 and T3 in SWNHC3 file. However, whatever I do in the way of saving the SWNHC3 file, Sailwave resets the sheet to the original values 30% and 15% next time it is loaded. I have a copy of SWNHC3 in a folder that is addressed from My Template Files.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

SWHelper will get its template file from 1 of 3 locations in the following order

  • The templates directory specified in Setup Global options
  • The templates directory which is a subdirectory of the location where Sailwave.exe is running from
  • The same directory as Sailwave.exe is running from
The Template file is SWNHC3.xls for Club mode and SWNHC4.xls for Regatta mode

Edit and save this template and it will be used for future calculations

If you still have a problem - You can run the program Debugview program from microsoft which can be downloaded from HERE

If you have this running before you click score or rescore it will capture and display some information - One line will be start "SWH - Template file = " followed by the path and name of the file that it is using for the template

Let me know if you still have a problem

Hi Jon

That's cracked it, thanks.

I was altering the Excel spreadsheet that is created with the same name as the series. Have now amended SWNHC3.

Cheers

Hi Jon

Now testing on last year's series . I have extended the number of rows in the sheet by inserting rows and then copying the formulas to the new lines in the normal way. No apparent problem, except I am getting an error message "only 9 races in series unable to set ratings for 10." The statement re 9 races is correct, and there is no race 10. It would appear that the programme is looking for a 10th race when there isn't one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Chris,

It needs 1 more race than you sailed configured in Sailwave because it needs to store the ratings for the next race in the “next race”. It has no way of knowing that there is not going to be another race at some time in the future, so if it doesn’t have a next race to store the new ratings in, it gives you the error message that you reported, Simply create a race and all will be fine.
