NHC Cycles between fleets when calculating

When using NHC rating system (internal) I noticed it cycles through all races several times between our Fast & Slow fleets, despite the scoring being all one fleet?

I dont think it causes an issue but to be safe I rename the fleets all to ‘NHC’ so it only cycles through once in sequence.

Is there a reason why NHC cycles between fleets even when not scored that way? And do I need to keep them all one fleet for it to remain accurate?

Many Thanks

Hi Sean,

NHC is designed for scoring by Fleet

It checks each fleet to determine the rating system and only works on those that have an NHC rating system.

I don’t quite understand what you are saying - you say you have Fast and Slow fleets, but score them as one fleet, but if you are scoring them as one fleet, why have Fast and Slow fleets?

Hi Jon

I am talking specifically about the Fleet column, not separate fleet scoring.

We keep fast and slow as for some races there is a separate trophy but we still all sail together. So sometimes we separate results after scoring.

When I combine PY with NHC I usually put all aliases as fleet ‘NHC’ and score separately. It was more trying to understand why Sailwave always treats the fleet column separately when its scored as one result across all competitors.

Kind Regards

Sean

HI Sean,

NHC always uses the Fleet column as the Fleet and always scores by Fleet, no matter what you specify. So if you are using NHC, you should normally select to score by Fleet. It’s fine to have just one fleet, but the fleet name should be the same for all then. It doesn’t matter what the name of the Fleet is, but it does matter what the rating system is for the fleet.

Hope that helps

Jon

Thanks Jon

All makes sense and noted. Fortunately I did have fleets set that way when I used it!

The NHC is a great tool for personal handicap racing. Started with average BCR’s of last year and it modified as we raced. People seemd to enjoy it so same again next year. Very close racing.

Thanks again
