I
need advice as to how to set up a new Sailwave file that meets the following
parameters;
-
Main group of boats sail under NHC.
-
A smaller sub-set of this group also hold IRC certificates, so I have
made an alias of the NHC group and called the Fleet “IRC”.
We have three series in a season as follows;
···
Spring Series (4 races)
Autumn Series ( 5 races)
Not
all boats sail the same regattas at our club, but to resolve NHC disquiet on
ratings, we have agreed that for the Autumn Series, the last race of a previous
regatta, which the boat has sailed, will be the starting rating for Race 1 of
the Autumn Series. Our aim is to smooth out variations on the handicap.
New
boats to the fleet start off the NHC Base number.
Input
of ratings;
In
my Sailwave file, normal NHC Base Handicap is being entered into the “Rating
Column” for each boat. Is this correct?
Next
I am entering the “revised rating” (from last race of previous regatta) in the
Race 1 cell for each boat and typing this into the bottom box of the “Edit
Result” pop up page.
Is
this correct or should the “revised rating” REPLACE the NHC Base Rating in the
Rating Column?
Can
you advise please as we have a difference of opinion at our club as to the
correct method of inputting ratings.
*In my Sailwave file, normal NHC Base Handicap is being entered into the “Rating Column” for each boat. Is this correct? *
Yes that is correct
*Next I am entering the “revised rating” (from last race of previous regatta) in the Race 1 cell for each boat and typing this into the bottom box of the “Edit Result” pop up page *
Yes that is also correct note the rating that you will use is the rating in the next unsailed race (Not the last sailed race).
One tip that is sometimes useful is if you have an earlier series. Copy the file and delete all the sailed races the ratings that were in the next blank race will then automatically be in Race 1 ready for the next series.

Thank you so much for the very quick reply
Focusing on this part of your response and taking an example.
“Yes that is also correct note the rating that you will use is the rating in the next unsailed race (Not the last sailed race)”
Boat Petite Fluer has a NHC Base of: 0.811. This is entered into the RATING column
Its last finishing rating from the last race of the last series is: 0.862
This is entered into “Edit Rating” Pop-up for Race 1 - Bottom Box
And it is this rating (0.862) that is used for Race 1 when Petite Fluer has her finishing time entered.
I think this is correct - please confirm?
The only question here is what you call the last race.
When you are using NHC there is always one more race in the Sailwave file than there have been races.
so if there are 4 races in the series there will be 5 (at least) races in the Sailwave file.
Race 5 contains the ratings that would be used if there was a 5th race in the series.
It is the ratings from this race you need to use in Race 1 of the new series.
Normally if you display the column New Rating - This will be the rating displayed in this column.
Hope that helps
