Hi Jon,
I was thinking that it might be fun to use the NHC system for
scoring our Wednesday evening racing this summer. It’s about 50
PHRF boats most weeks.
So I lit up SW and loaded a series from last year, flipped the
scoring system to NHC and everything looked just fine until I
selected external XLS scoring, at which point I received a number of
interesting error messages. I’m using SW 2.19.8 which I think is
the latest version, and also Excel 2007, which is definitely not the
latest version but seems to work for most things. On looking through
the web site, I discovered that a previous beta seems to have more
NHC specific focus.
What's the best way to move forward? Use the older beta, or is
there something else that needs changing?
Thanks,
jrc

Hi John,
There are some newer versions but there should be no problem using 2.19.8
All the features that are documented in the earlier betas will be included in the 2.19.8
You don’t say what errors you encountered
If you would like to send me the blw file I can see what they might be. But one thing might be that you need to increase the size of the template.

Yes, that was one of the error messages I received. There are two 2015 templates provided. One is SWNHC2015.xls and the other is SWNHC2015-2.xls. Both are read-only. Should one of these be copied to the working directory?

Thanks. I think I have the idea now. Template needs to be in the working folder, and saved after each race. And expanded. I had too many boats.
Not sure about the calculations, however. Is there documentation on the RYA site somewhere?

Hi John,
You should set the Setup-Global Options-Folders
as shown below if it is not already that setting, and then store any modified templates in that folder or subfolders
The Built in version of NHC is NHC2014 and the template this uses is SWNHC3.xls
The Excel Template has a size of 40 competitors so the maximum fleet size is 40 boats but in practice most club racing they are split into multiple fleets so 40 is more than ample.
You can increase the size of the template, instructions have been published on the user forum and is easy to do. 40 was chosen as a compromise as being large enough for normal usage. If you increase the size - File sizes will be larger and calculation time slower.
If you want to use NHC2015 you can use the SWNHC2015.xls template.
You only need to modify the template once and there is no need to save it after each race.
There is some documentation on the RYA site - there is a link to it on the Sailwave web site.
Give me a skype or facetime call if you would like.
Jon
