Hi Colin
Since you may be having withdrawal symptoms with nothing much in your inbox
I thought you might be interested in the latest position at Chipstead re the
possible use of HPS.
When we last exchanged I outlined a generalised formula based upon the
Rinderle B method but with some tweaks and improvements, which allowed
flexibility to change the parameters and include such things as
non-linearity (although I am not actually recommending a non-linear
approach).
Since that time I have optimised the values of the parameters, taken
feedback from club members and produced a full set of results of all series
run by the club during 2004.
I also gave a presentation (at a cheese and wine evening) with a view to
interesting members in adopting the method next year. Whether they go for
this remains to be seen.
If you are interested in the presentation and the optimised values that I
have derived for the formula and perhaps looking at how the HPS & LPS
results compare for a large number of real dinghy series then you may like
to look at:
http://www.chipsteadsc.org.uk/
NB. Slides with formula and optimised parameters plus matching table of
scores are available there in pdf format.
Best regards,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I wondered who was going to do that

Not read it yet but looks interesting - do you mind if I link to it from the scoring systems tech note?

Tech note updated; thanks.

Does anybody else have articles on points systems that they have written that the tech note could link to, historical or technical. MikeG?
