I am in the process of publishing results and have noted that the HTML
output only works properly with Internet Explorer. In viewing the
results with either Netscape or Mozilla the results table is left
justified while the header/footer are center justified. This requires
me to manually edit each page in Netscape prior to publishing.
Is there a way to get Sailwave to output proper HTML or are you
limited to the Microsoft version?

I've noticed this myself before but never bothered to look see what
the problem is. Got a bit bored in work and had a look since someone
else mentioned it.
I reckon the css for table.main should be
{margin: 20px auto 20px auto; border-collapse: collapse; text-align:
center;}
instead of
{margin: 20px 0 20px 0; border-collapse: collapse; text-align:
center;}
i.e auto instead of 0 for the left and right margins.
I quickly tried changing a copy of one of my results pages and it
seems to work in Mozilla Firefox 0.8 and IE 6
Hope this helps

Hi Bill,
Sailwave generates the HTML so everything is under out control. If
you can
identify what the problem is, I'll tweak it this end.

Thank you for taking the time to sift through the HTML. I can also

When entering results, I think things could be sped up slightly by
adding the following features
1. The default box should be the time field instead of position.
2. If a time is entered, or code selected, the time or code field
should automatically be selected
3. If the first entries finishinng time and number of laps is
entered, The rest of the entries should by default have the same
number of laps for that race.
I'm not sure which version you're referring to, but 1.57 (latest release)
should operate like that if you've defined either backstop 'finishes' stype
in Edit+ScoringSystem Race tab or have defined starts in Edit+Race.

Please be careful in setting a default of all boats completing the same
number of laps.
In BIG multi-class General Handicap races, the only practical way to get
races in is to use Average Lap Racing.
In a perfect world, Sailwave could require the user to select Ave Lap or
"Same Laps" and THEN meeting Terry's request would be fine.
Otherwise I would prefer the hassle of entering laps each time if it means
avoiding human error issues

The way it should work (it appears to be broken) is that Sailwave will look
in the competitors in the same class of the start first to get a default -
this is fairly useful because under ALR, classes tend to do the same number
of laps. If it doesn't find an entry it drops the 'same class' restriction
a looks for laps set by boats in the same start. There is no backstop
default.
Note that the 'fleet' concept as something special is gradually being
removed and will disappear alltogether soon.

Yep, I have 1.57 (downloaded today), followed your instructions and
appear to have it working now, however I still need to enter the
number of laps.

Thanks for your explanation but 'disturbed' with your
Note that the 'fleet' concept as something special is gradually being
removed and will disappear alltogether soon.
I hope this does not mean what I think it says as being able to score by
fleets and all together is one of the (many) great options which Sailwave
has to offer.
Please tell me that I have misinterpreted your comment (:-0)

Thanks for your explanation but 'disturbed' with your
>Note that the 'fleet' concept as something special is gradually being
removed and will disappear alltogether soon.
I hope this does not mean what I think it says as being able to score by
fleets and all together is one of the (many) great options which Sailwave
has to offer.
Please tell me that I have misinterpreted your comment (:-0)
You have misinterpreted me
What it means is that I want to generalise things so that you can score by
any column, not just fleet. And when doing so, set up different scoring
options that will stick. This includes scoring by the same column in
various ways (e.g. different rating system). As a side effect of the the
Edit+Fleets stuff will become Edit+ScoringProfiles or something - a scoring
profile specifying which column to score by - which may indeed be fleet.
No existing functionality will be removed - it'll just be generalised and
repackaged as being able to define a set of 'score the series like this'
records. V flexible when done.
Note also that things like fleet specific race distances will be moved to
the start records where they belong.
In general this is my goal:-
- a *flat* database - i.e. just a list of competitors with values in
columns.
- the ability to define that "the boats sailed like this" - e.g. starts +
results.
- the ability to score the boats like this, and this, and this...
- the ability to publish the results like this, and this, and this.
Phew!!! My 1st 'birthday' after last year's heart probs comes up soon &
thought I might have to go back in again ;-))))
Instead, Sailwave is moving from strength to strength. Sadly, I do not have
much chance to use Sailwave these days but this does not stop me preaching
the gospel according to St Colin!!
Bit over the top but just my way of saying keep going & ask users to be
patient - where else can you get such a fantastic service - some of us
remember the dark days when we had to use the old grey cells, pencil &
paper!!

Glad you are well and thanks for the kind words; don't worry, I won't quote
you...
It's getting there but it's a *lot* of work. One day it is going to have to
become a pay-for product even though in the early days I was "committed" to
a free service; it was just a naive idea. What'll probably happen is there
will always be a free version that can score a series with, but will not
have the multiple starts and multiple scoring methods enabled etc. i.e. if
you want to score a straight-forward flat series and publish the results,
it'll do it.
