Number of races in a series

Hi,

I do not know if my last was actually transmitted. If yes please
delete this one.

I am scoring my Solo fleet summer series which has 46 races
scheduled. When I try and enter/edit race 29 it will not let me
proceed. Is there any reason for this or a fix. I can not find
anythng in the FAQs. I have tried closing and re-opening the
programme. I have tried increasing the numbers in the "scoring
series" tab.

Also I can not get it to print out on my A4 printer (Epson Photo
R200) It prints out all the competitors but not all the races (the
last third of the series just being cropped off) This is so whether
I am in portrait or landscape and poster or single sheet. Any
suggestions. Or should I just export it say to word and work from
there.
Kind Regards
Frank

Frank,

Which version of SailWave are you using, as there is a mention in the history notes for release v1.83 relating to max number of races in a series be increased from 52 to 250. (http://www.sailwave.com/index.php?page=history)

With regard to printing Colin currently produces output in HTML format and then relies on the browser to control the actual hard copy stuff of printing to paper. Trying to print a large number of race results on a sheet of A4 paper in either portrait or landscape is going to be tough. I use Firefox which is supposed to fit a web browser page to a physical paper size but I still have problems with results getting chopped even in landscape mode when I try to print the results of a 26 race series. I am fortunate that the club has an A3 printer and for 26 race series I have no problems.

Printing is an issue for a lot of people and it is in the development plan Colin has of enhancement requests.

Colin has chosen to concentrate on the functionality of Sailwave up to now and use a web browser to display the results and put them out on to paper. This saves a lot of development effort for Colin as providing direct printing from Sailwave to a printer would entail significantly more work.

Things are much easier in the latest releases of Sailwave where one can order columns and control which race results are being printed, so it is possible to print on two sheets and ‘stick’ them together. Alternatively as you have already thought, use a word processor or spreadsheet to enable better control over printing. Personally I would use a spreadsheet, but I suspect the print size will be very small and difficult to read on a sheet of A4 if printing the number of races you have mentioned. I have just printed a 20 race series on to a sheet of A4 in landscape using Excel and I find it very difficult to read the small print!

I am not familiar with your printer but the HP DeskJet 990cxi I use has a settable option to scale the screen display to the physical page size in the page orientation chosen. But even setting these options fails to print more than 15 races in a 26 race series in landscape A4 ;-(

Hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Huw

Huw,

I am using version 1.57. It sounds as though it would be worth
downloading one of the later versions. How simple is that going to
be and will it just update my current file or will I need to move
the recorded race series across. Should I pick the latest version
to get all the extra functionality?
Also an A3 printer is looking the way forward.
Many thanks for your help.

Regards

Frank
