One fleet two sets of results

Hi: Can anyone help please. Lets say we have a Byte fleet with all
entrants competing for the Grand Prix prize. Within the entrants are a
group who are 18 and under. This subgroup are also eligible to win the
18 and under Championship.
How do I set up entrants to allow simplest data entry and scoring?
One way is to set up a fleet of all Byte entrants and to set up a
second fleet of 18and under Byte entrants. This sounds cumbersome. Is
there a more elegant solution? Thanks, Donald

What wording have you used for scoring in your NOR and SI?
Are the under 18's scored as a combined fleet or as a separate fleet?
Will the under 18 champion being the lowest scoring under 18 sailor within
the larger fleet, or will they be scored separately?
If the first under 18 sailor finishes 3rd in the combined fleet do they
score 3pts or 1pt?

Hi Mark: Maybe I'm making this too difficult for myself. If I have a
column marked AGE then I can just treat every competitor equally. Score
them all together. In the Overall the first three get the loot then I
look down the list and find 1st, 2nd, and 3rd who are marked 18 and
under and they get their loot. If the first person overall is 18 and
under they get two sets of loot. It doesn't matter if the 1st, 2nd, 3rd
18 and under are 12th, 16th, and 20th in the overall fleet they still
get their prizes.
Does this make sense, I just hadn't thought it through sufficiently. I
can still use the sail number wizard. Also the committee boat doesn't
have to worry about age, just write down the numbers.
Thanks for making me think it through - does it make sense?

Your solution will work. Be aware that scoring competitors separately versus
combined can result in different winners. You need to review your NOR and
SI's to make sure that they clearly state how the scoring will be done. If
the
NOR and SI does not clear identify then I would post an amendment to the
SI before the first race to clarify how you will be scoring. Either

Under and over 18 competitors will sail as a single fleet, but will be
scored
separately.

Under and over 18 competitors will sail and be scored as a single fleet. The

under 18 trophies will be awarded based upon their finishing position within

the combined fleet.

If you use the fleet column to identify under and over 18 sailors then you
can
use the score button to get your combined results and the score fleets
button
to get the under 18 results scored separately. If you use the prizes
function
you can identify who the winner of the trophy is on your results sheet. I
haven't
figured out how to identify 2nd and 3rd place trophy winners using the
prizes
function, but maybe someone else can answer that question.
