OOD points question

Hi, myself and my crew turned up to do OOD duty last Saturday to run
race 4 and 5 in our summer series. No competitors turned up. We had
to hang around in the bar for a reasonab;e amount of time to ensure no
competitors turned up for the second race naturally.

Do I get my OOD points? Currently the scorers had marked the race
abandoned, but I was the OOD and I definately didn't abandon them.

Hello Simon

We have had one case like this before. We certainly do not score the race as abandoned. Abandoned is only if weather conditions stopped the race. If no competitors showed up, you should surely get OOD points.

Simon certainly deserves something but be careful re not abandoning as club SIs quite often state
the minimum number of entrants for a valid race

Hi all,

What I tend to do as we award OOD points as the 'Average of all races not
scored DNC', is to look for a date that the individual(s) concerned did not
sail themselves on another day when there were competitors partaking and
include them on that date with code OOD. Otherwise the races in which no
competitors took part end up with one or more OOD points and all the rest
get DNC.

If there are no scoring codes on a race date or races, then from what I have
seen in Sailwave the date and/or races is completely ignored in series
calculations. I record the fact that a race or races were scheduled for a
date so that when I do racing turnout statistics I know who many aces were
run and not run.

Kind regards,
Huw
