OOD scoring

We have always awarded a 2nd place for being OOD, but the sailing committee want to move away from that to the average of sailed races. Now I could award an RDGa to get the average of ALL races including DNC's. Does anyone know how to do an average of only sailed races? Secondly what is the norm for OOD scoring?

thanks
Tony

You can Edit the RDGa scoring code and change the Method to “Average of (sum of points for non-DNC races) +N points”.

Not sure of a norm for an OOD score.

The downside of an average of races in a series (including or excluding discards and DNCs) is that it’s a fluctuating score, a moving target.

We currently use an average of the fleet for that days racing, which potentially penalises the top of the fleet and benefits the back of the fleet, but it’s fixed.

Average of races before the race in question would be erratic for the early part of a series.

I’ve wondered if average of the first 75% of races would work, thereby reflecting a sailors abilities, but fixing a score before the last few races of a series.

Cheers,

Andy

It’s in the scoring codes set-up (2.02 ver 6)

Secondly what is the norm for OOD scoring?

You don’t need to use RDG; there is an OOD code already defined in Sailwave. I think everyone in our area uses the average after throwouts which is average of sum of points for non-discarded races.
