Optimist age-related fleet scoring

What I do for Optimists is to add a Division column with something like “Optimist-Red” or “Optimist-Green”. We call them “Class B”, “Class C” and “Overall”. Then you can decide to score by Division or by Class (which I assume is “Optimist”). Also, you can then add a prize table and have a 1-2-3 for each division, even though you may be scoring by class.

We also end up giving trophies to Girls or Boys. You can also use the prize table for that.

Here’s an example: http://www.vallartayachtclub.org/race/wesmex2014optimistadv.htm

(this is just advanced kids - we start and score the beginners separately)

For anyone following this thread here is the suggestion I sent

Inline images 2

This image shows the publishing in columns which I personally think it makes it very clear who was competing against who - the only draw back is it can make the results large if you have a lot of races.

The Column Fleet Rank is actually the Boat name column which I renamed, then after a rescore and before publishing

Used the Tools Seed competitor field

Inline images 3

like this are repeated for Fleet = R and Fleet = W

Then publish and you get as per the first image - What do you think?

As for setting the fleets based on the year of Birth - Yes you can

Use the Tools set competitor field assuming you are using the CrewAgeGroup for the Year of Birth

And repeat for the other 2 fleets

Hi Andy et al,

Just catching up on discussions after a busy couple of days sorting

out scoring for 2015 RSX Europeans - remotely I might add.

Something to be aware of when changing scoring field, if you score

using the example below given by Andy; the rank of competitor X
versus competitor Y in class is say X ahead of Y BUT when you score
by Division this could, and has happened to me at an Optimist event
in the past, change so Y is ahead of X. This is a possible effect of
re-scoring of the sub-fleet instead of just extracting the the
sub-fleet from the overall. This needs to be made clear in the SI’s
Scoring section as to what the organisers intend.

For example in the 2015 RSX European Windsurfing Championship SI's

it states:

  • Scores for the:

  • 2015 2015 RS:X European Windsurfing Championships and the

2015 Palermo RS:X U21 Windsurfing Championships will be
extracted from the overall @European Open Trophy Results’
    without recalculation.
Just pointing out that one needs to be careful otherwise in the case
of the Optimists I had parents in quite a flap.

    Kind regards,

    Huw
