ORC Windrats import

I thought I might explain how we’re getting ORC Windrats into Sailwave. SW has a built in ratings feature, but it’s set to connect ratings to the Class field. No doubt this is helpful for Portsmouth and similar rating systems. For ORC, we need boat specific numbers. So we use the Class field for Sail Numbers, and put the boat type (J/109. Beneteau 36.5, etc.) somewhere else, usually AltSailNo. This requires a bit of column adjustment,

To get the ratings to load, goto Scoring → Edit and check the box AutoSet Competitor Ratings. Then from the main menu hit Score Series and everything loads. We usually go back and uncheck the Autoset box, in case someone changes the Rating file for another event.

Then with the SailNum Wizard, change the default SailNo to Class and things are good to go.

There’s a problem, which it would nice if we could get fixed. SW more or less crashes if you have a registered boat that is not in the Rating file. Various odd popups occur, and the ratings load stops.

The fix is to put a dummy entry in the Ratings file with the problem SailNo, which is fine for one or two, but early in the season we seem to catch more than a few boats who haven’t got around to renewing their certificates. Many stories abound, but there needs to be a SailNo on file, never mind.

If Jon has a quiet moment, and could fix the error handling, it would be a blessing. Easiest way would be to show “N/A” in the ratings column. But any idea would be good.

Thanks for considering.
