I feel a bit silly as I should be able to do this!
We have started our new season and I have a personal handicap series in conjunction with our yardstick series, but I cannot get SW to calculate the personal handicap for the one fleet (Sabre Handicap)
I have 4 fleets, all but the Sabre Handicap is to use the handicap scoring, but I cannot get SW to recognise teh different fleets.
Can you help, please?
Dear all,
I think I have now appropriately changed the scoring system for the ‘Sabre Handicap’ fleet to RYA NHC, using the internal mode of calculation.
The program does not allow my rating for the Sabre - PH class to stick at 127, despite the class being in my ratings file.
See:
This is my fleet setup. It states that I have two overrides, RatSys and RatAB.
See:
Any ideas now would be appreciated

Hi Rob,
While I am not familiar with the rating system you are using, I have received this message when the fleet value for the competitor didn’t match the fleet value in my race/scoring information.

Hi Rob,
The RYA NHC is a progressive handicap system. Only the first race
will be scored using the base rating. Also not that you need to
have one more race than will be actually sailed so when you score
the last race there is somewhere for the new rating to be placed,
even though it will not be used.
If you would like I will take a look at your Sailwave file if you
send it to me. I will then be able to see how the default rating
set-up is configured.
Remember that you can score a group of boats on different
handicap systems and only have to enter finish times once, this is
achieved using aliases.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Rob,
I am in my second season of using RYA NHC system for doing PH.
Please note the formula for NHC is e * r (where e is elapsed time and r is the rating). When I checked the results I got some results that were different to what I expected.
My fleet are mixed classes.
VYC is (e * 100)/ r.
Where all the competitors have the same class I have no idea if the errors will be the same for all competitors.
You could start all competitors with a rating of 1 or .787 which is 127 converted to give the same rating correction factor in the NHC system. The formula to convert VYC to TCF is 100/r.
Have fun sailing.
Kind regards JohnL.

Hi Malcom,
Thanks for your comments.
I did my testing about 18 months ago using VYC and cannot remember the exact results. I have not tried the Portsmouth ratings
I used both internal and external NHC systems, I was getting different results for each system.
When I asked the question I was advised to use a TCF rating.
I think using a TCF rating will ensure the results are accurate.
Of course if you want to vary the adjustment factors then external is the only option.
Rob,
If you start using 1 as the initial rating for the Sabres then you should soon have boats both above and below 1, and any difference *100 will be the percentage difference, and should be easier for competitors to understand

Although in Notepad I cannot see anything wrong with the line originally in your file, making this change removes the warning! error that Sailwave cannot find a rating for the Manly Graduate. I have seen this happen a couple of times in the past.

Thanks John,
I have changed the staring ratings to be 100/VY, so there is some ease of assessment of the ratings.
That seems to work well.
Cheers,

Hi Malcom,
Thanks for your comments.
Kind regards JohnL.

If External mode is selected for Sailwave NHC, the Excel template will convert from Portsmouth or VHC and back for the updated ratings.
