PHP vulnerabilities / new server

I expect nearly all of you have heard of the PHP vulnerabilities in the last day or so, and a lot of websites are affected it’s been reported it could be up to 70%. Many sites have been taken down because of the vulnerabilities well they are updated to mitigate these vulnerabilities.

The vulnerabilities affect all WordPress sites, of which Sailwave is one.

The fix for the PHP vulnerabilities is to upgrade PHP to 8.4.27. This has caused me a major problem. As the Sailwave server currently is a Windows Server 2008 R2 this has stopped me upgrading the PHP as the latest version that will run on this server is PHP 7.4. There are no fixes for PHP 7.4. Only PHP 8.4 is being fixed currently. The version of WordPress I’ve been running is also too old to work with PHP 8.4 so that has to be upgraded.

This means that the only way of fixing this at the time is to have a new server so I now have a Windows Server 2022 a new version of WordPress 7.1.3 and the latest version of PHP 8.4.27 I’ve spent the last couple of days setting this all up and this weekend we’ll try and move it to the new server. There may be times when the server is down for short periods. If you have any questions or are experiencing problems, please drop me an email at jon@eskdale.org. There may be some issues with the Sailwave email address. Please feel free to use my jon@eskdale.org or of course you can WhatsApp me.

Apologies for any inconvenience this is causing but it’s also causing me a lot of work

Hi Jon,

Thank you for taking the immense amount of time to protect the resources of Sailwave for the Sailwave community. It is really very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
