PHRF

I need some help. I can’t seem to get sailwave to score a race using PHRF handicaps. When I score the race, the software scores participants in order of their finish or elapsed time only . It doesn’t appear to factor in the handicap ratings. HELP!

Hi John,

I suspect that you have not configured each race to use finish or

elapsed time. It is not enough to just select the rating system to
be used.

To change the default place finish, you need to right click on each

race column header followed by highlighting a start and the clicking
the edit button. You then select finish or elapsed from the drop
down list box alongside the words "Finishes will be recorded as ".
You then need to click OK.

Couple of tips:
  1. You can copy the setting once set up for one race to a

selection of other races.

  1. When you have results for a race I suggest you use the edit

race button in the Sail number Wizard and select the race in
question and enter the start time in the race information. This
will save you having to enter it for each competitor as you
enter information using the Sail Number Wizard.
Kind regards,

Huw

Did you set PHRF under Scoring System / Rating system?

Sailwave offers the choice of PHRF ToT or ToD - not sure which one would suit your application.

Yes, I think I fixed that problem. I needed to set the AB coefficients in the Time on Time page. I now have a different problem. We start a small PHRF fleet and one design fleet together. When scoring sailwave determines a corrected time for the one design fleet even though no handicap is specified. I would like to publish corrected times for the phrf fleet and places only for the one design. How do I set this up?

Hi Jim,

You will need to do a few things I think from the information you

have given.

  1. For each race create 2 starts, one for PHRF & one for one

design fleet, even though they are starting at the same time.

  1. For the PHRF start you will need to set finish or elapsed time

  2. For one design you will have to set place finishes
I am presuming you have have tagged PHRF boats in the Fleet column
with PHRF and the One Design bopats in the fleet column with say One
Design. If you have you then use the second option when the scoring
window opens and everything should be fine.

If you still have problems send me the file and will take a look at
    it for you.

PS - have you downloaded and read Mark Townsend’s Sailwave User
Guide is available from http://www.abyc.org/upload/Sailwave_ABYC_User_Guide.pdf .
If not I think you would find it helpful.

    Kind regards,

    Huw

Hi
I think this is what you want - see revised blw file attached

What was missing was the definition of the scoring system for the San Juan 21 Fleet

Inline images 1

In the scoring system on the Fleets tab - I’ve created an entry for the Fleet San Juan 21 then edited this and unticked the inherit Rating system and set the ratings system to None

Let me know if this is what you wanted

Jon
