PHS - Handicaping

Colin - Thanks for developing this great product.

It meets our clubs needs for standard YV yarstick races, but I'm
struggling to setup Personal Handicaps for our mixed fleet. In
Regatta's that I've tried to score using Personal Handicaps, the
handicaps seem to 'creep' higher over the regatta - I assume this is
due to the BCR being based on the boat that was first on correct time,
so handicaps can only increase.

The manual system we use calculates the Back Calculated Handicap on
the Boat that finished 45% down the fleet on corrected time. This
allows Handicaps to move in either direction & seems to balance them.

We also set limits on the %change allowed for BCHs to avoid overly
large swings. This % may be higher during the initial couple of races
to set the level of the field, and will then be fixed at 5% max swing.

Can this be configured in the current SailWave, or is it possibly
planned for subsequent releases ?

thanks,
David

Hi David (et al),

re: BCR etc.

My plan is to allow the user to specify how a "Standard Corrected Time" is
calculated (based on an option set from the recent emails) and then use that
in the BCR calculation which itself will be more flexible. *I think* that
facilitates you and ESPN. SCT will also be available in the PH expressions.
I think that then allows RYA PY stuff to be done too (Huw). You'll be able
to do this on a per scoring system basis, so different fleets can be done in
different ways.

Regards,
Colin

Hi All:

I'm wondering if the notion of "Standard Corrected Time" as a proxy
for Estimated Speed Potential Number (ESPN) has ever been developed
within Saliwave? I reacall that some time ago Colin was toying with
the possibility of using BCR as the underpinning, and that the
function was gong to be generic enabling users to set their own
valuses.

Is this item still alive??
