Portsmouth Yardstick step by step

I have been tasked with scoring a regatta next weekend using the Portsmouth handicap. Does anybody have step by step instructions, from setup to printing results, that they will share? Sailwave looks to be a full featured program but with a bit of a learning curve.

I will take anything including pointers - I will compile all of the information I receive and publish a step by step procedure to share with this list.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry

A good starting point is Mark Townsend’s Sailwave user guide available at http://www.abyc.org/upload/Sailwave_ABYC_User_Guide.pdf

Hi Jerry,

A good starting place is the mark Townsend Sailwave User Guide

listed in the footer to most if not all messages to the SUG.

You will need to acquire the PN ( RYA or US Sailing ) as appropriate

for all the classes, both are available for download as CSV files
from the Sailwave web site. Note - you may have classes entered for
which there is no officially published PN, so you will have to ask
for help.

A good read of both NoR & SI's highlighting everything that

could be related to scoring is the first place to start.

A couple of questions:
  1. Are all the competitor entries available in electronic format

that is in CSV format or can be massaged into CSV format? If so
it will save you a lot of typing.

  1. Is this regatta in the UK?
Please feel free to get in touch if you need help.

    Kind regards,

    Huw

I am making good progress - I entered competitors and printed a list. I configured 3 fleets - Flying Scot, Wayfarer and Open. Flying Scot and Wayfarer setup as one design. All others Open - I entered the Portsmouth Handicap for each boat in the open fleet and told Sailwave to score the open fleet using the rating system USSA Portsmouth.

I entered results for race 1 using actual place for FS and W and entered start and finish times for the open and scored. The corrected time is not corrected for the open fleet. What have I done wrong? Under Scoring System, race Scoring TAB I selected ISAF Appendix A standard low point. Under the Fleets TAB I allowed inherited for FS and W. For open I overrode and chose USSA Portsmouth.

Also, just want to make sure that 0,0,0,0,0 equals no throw outs for 5 races.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

If you would like to email me your blw(Sailwave) file I’ll have a look and confirm.

I’m guessing its the way you have set up the scoring system.

If you have 3 fleets, and 2 are one design, then I would set the one design as the default scoring system then for the open (handicap) fleet create a fleet and in the rating untick the inherit and set it to USSA Portsmouth.
