Posting results on the club website

Hello,

We have used sailwave for 2 years now but are still having problems posting the results on the club website. The Laptop we use is now networked into the club system and a new drive (s:) has been created to upload the results to. Unfortunately the system will not accept the resulting HTML file. Every other club seems to get over this - does anyone know what we are doing wrong!

Thanks,

Graham

Graham,

There are a couple of terms you have used which i need you to clarify for me, what do you mean by “Drives”

The published page from Sailwave usually will go to a folder within your web site hosting package.

What happens when you try to Publish to your local Browser on your PC?

Are you getting any error messages?

Would it be possible for you to share any error messages you are getting ?

What is the web site address you are using, and on what page are you trying to upload the Sailwave info . please?

Sorry more question than anything else…

John

Hi Graham - You will need to give us more information before we can assist you. Please tell us what you are trying to do and any error messages you get.

Is the drive s: mapped by the server to a directory, e.g. public
html/results ? In Sailwave, you would have to specify the /results
directory as the destination for your files.

Graham,

There are many possibilities for trouble. The club system may not

allow FTP, for example, which is what is normally used to post files
to a website. Or you may not have the link established on your
results page.

And as Malcolm has pointed out, the Sailwave FTP interface isn't

quite perfect. It’s necessary to add the server pathname to the
front of the filename when you upload. Your best bet is to get your
club network person and your webmaster involved. Once you have it
running, it’s very handy indeed.

John,

Thanks for your help and also the others that contributed. We had tackled both the IT providers and the Web company but they both blamed Sailwave. I am no IT expert but your answers have given me what I need to tackle them again. Spending some time on this over the last 2 days, we have also discovered one ‘operator error’ that was also contributing to the problem.

For info, the files are being rejected by the website with an error message ‘this type of file is not allowed for security reasons’.

Thanks again,

Graham
