Pre-loading values for drop down

I use a no competitors series file as a pro-forma for our events (Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association http://www.cvrda.org)) and would like to have a set of values for certain fields pre-loaded in the drop down for the field. Obviously rating drop-down (from my ratings file) and fleet drop-down (from my scoring setup) are available but I’d like to pre-fill others and even better, set default values. I know I can set competitor fields in bulk once competitors are loaded, but filling with a default as the competitor is created would be good.
Pre-filling my drop downs would ensure consistency and correct spelling under pressure of data entry and pre-populating would fill for the majority, with only a minority needing changing to a different value from the same drop down.
I use fields such as mast for values such as carbon, alloy or wood since we give handicap advantage to wooden mast and cotton sails and disadvantage to carbon and Kevlar and have prizes for first wooden boat (platform = wood, GRP etc.)

Any suggestions for good ways to achieve this in my pro-forma series with minimal work at competitor entry time or is it just one for the future enhancement wish list?

It’s not clear how many drop down values you’re after but you could set up various dummy competitors with differing values in the relevant fields required which would then be available as you’re entering the actual competitors.

If you don’t want to view the “dummy” competitors you can set them to be excluded and select “Hide Excluded Competitors”.

Hi Pat,
I thought I would just clarify how the dropdowns work.

If the field is a field that supports the dropdowns then the Dropdowns are prefilled with the entries that have already been entered.

So let’s say you are using the Division field once you have one competitor with Carbon in this field then the dropdown will offer you Carbon as an option.

There is also the “New like” button

The new like button will create a new competitor with the values of the selected competitor so this would work for your default option

You can then just change the fields you wish

I think this will offer you all the features you are looking for.
