Prize winners list

Is it possible to generate a list of prize winners, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd
etc? Also to include their clubs?

Richard

Hi Richard,

Not quite sure what you mean. The publish+Results menu will give you a
overall series table with the winnders listed 1,2,3.... but I sispect you
mean something else...?

Colin

We would like to produce a prize winners table showing 1/2/3 place
etc, also to include the winners club. Currently I think we can only
include the best placed competitor from a selected list of
competitors, e.g.

Special Prizes
Prize Winner Club

1st Overall 420 48693 Matt Ball & Peter Bufton - Obsidian PYC
2nd Overall 420 48694 Somebody else & crew - Second Boat HISC
etc

Have I got this right?

Hi Huw

<For large events like the above Colin & I are convinced that the person who is going to do the results needs to be involved in the early stages of event planning>

I had that very discussion with the Event Director 2 months ago.

It seems that until there is a total disaster, some people will continue to assume that results is simply putting a few numbers into a computer.

Sadly, the same type of individual also seems to think that race management is just pulling a few flags :frowning:

Hi Ralph,

It was a very enlightening experience last week at the 29er Worlds & 49er Europeans events at Weymouth.

Some of the things I learnt last week

  • read the Sailing Instructions every last word!
  • I was caught out when a set of results was 'phoned in with one competitor 'listed' as DNE. I had until last week been under the impression that only a Jury or Protest Committee could use the code DNE. Not so if the SI's invoke Flag X notification at the windward mark and the competitor does not get off the race track.

  • agree with the chairman of the Jury how to incorporate a lump of points brought forward from the Q series and non-discardable

  • agree with the chairman of the Jury the interpretation of discards in the F series when the SI says that the points brought forward are non-discardable but are considered Race 1 of the F series

  • the job is more than just entering the results provided by the Race Team
  • the scorer needs appreciation of the pressures on the Race Team
  • the need to have someone available to talk things through with when one is not thinking straight
  • the pressure to provide printed and on-line updates of results
  • the pressure when a final series points race is held on the same day as the scheduled medal race
Hopefully, Colin and I will be able to put down some words about what we learnt, e.g. what went well and probably more importantly what didn’t.

Colin was great at both the ISAF Youth Worlds and supporting the 29/49er event by updating Sailwave as necessary. We will all, all Sailwave users, benefit from his very active hands on activity in both these events.

Be in touch soon.

Kind regards,

Huw

PS - I hope I have done a good job at promoting Sailwave to the 29er class

Colin,

As an extension to Richard’s original request, would it be possible for you to provide a report, in the vein of the Competitor’s List, of Prize Categories with the current list of competitors deemed eligible for each Prize category with a page break between each category?

Having awarded 4= as a
redress for a competitor, using the RDG scoring code, the fifth placed
competitor has been awarded 6 points, etc. Previously we would not have
changed the points awarded to the remaining competitors. Is there a way
to avoid that happening?

Hi Richard,

Did you leave the original place in the results that was changed to RDG. This is needed to tell Sailwave to pad as required.

If in doubt, attach the series to your reply so we can have a look.

Hi Richard,

Your original place results were (or are now):-

1,2,3,4,4,5,6

so place=5 will get 6 points. That's correct.

You changed one of the place=4 to RDG of 4 points but that will not change
anything because they are already on 4 points.

If the the original reuslts as above were what was recorded then Sailwave is
correct.

If however the RDG boat was DNF (say) or another place and you chnaged her
to RDG 4 points **and** changed her place to 4, you need to remove the
place=4 from her result (if she was DNF etc) or reinstate the old place:
select the place radio button, delete the 4 or reinstate the old place then
reselect code radio button.

i.e. when doing redress, do not change any existing places or elapsed/start
times. Just change to a RDG code result and enter the points. Sailwave
will do the rest.

Colin

Hi!

I have a problem wheb printing results. Think I’ve reported it earlier, but I’m not sure.

After publishing to browser, everything looks OK. But when printing in Landscape mode, the first page comes only with logoes and heading. On the next page the result list continues with place number 13…

Hi, Colin.

I have IE 6. Think I’ve reported this earlier, during our Nationals…

The printout should be 2 pages, starting with #13 on page 2. Page 1 only have the logos + heading, no boats!

The really strange is that when I do a preview, it shows the same as the printed pages: No competitors on page 1.

Oooops… Maybe you don’t have the logos in the file I sent you… They’re attached now.

I don’t see the problem with the link from Richard… But if you do, it’s OK.

When thinking back, I think this has been a problem for a while.

The problem only occures when trying to print in Landscape mode, but not if I publis with the option “No head or foot”.

So, is the burgees the problem?
