What will happen is the Pro (the better sailor) will be paired with the Am (a sailor who is learning) it is the Pro's job to coach the Am through out the start and the first lap. The Am must pass through the start and through the start on the first lap ahead of his allotted Pro.
Its then get to the finish first. The Pro's positional points and the Am's positional points will be added together giving a final result. Its the best two out of three races to count, the Pro will be paired with the same Am through out the series, and a prize for the first and second pair (that's the first Pro & Am and the second Pro & Am).
We are doing this to try to help the sailors at the back of the fleet to learn a bit more and get to the front.
