Problem in displaying Greek fonts

I am a Greek user of Sailwave. I have used it for several regattas
from
Optimist and other Dingies classes up to TP52 Medcup Athens Trophy
2006 and Lightning European & World Championship 2007. I think that
it is a very easy to use and flexible software with a great advantage
for me as I can work with Greek fonts both in display and publish.

Recently I noticed that I can't see Greek fonts on the display while
publishing works perfectly. I don't know when this problem appeared
for first time as I have not used the program for the last 2 or 3
months, so I don't know if it appeared after upgrading to the last
Sailwave version (195b) or after installing some Windows update or
maybe another program.

I fully uninstalled Sailwave and installed it again (both the last
version and an older version - 194 – which worked perfectly last
year) with no results.
I did the same in 3 different computers – 2 desktops and 1 laptop –
but the problem persists.
All the computers run Greek Windows XP Professional SP2 with all the
updates provided by Microsoft installed.
In Sailwave the language option is set to Greek.

I would appreciate any suggestion as the problem of displaying Greek
fonts makes the use of the Greek language almost impossible

Thank yoy

Vassilis

Vassilis,

First check Setup > Global Options __/ Languages \__
Not only the locale may be selected, but also the character set.
Default is ANSI - USA and Western Europe, probably this setup was not saved in Sailwave upgrade

From the beginning I had selected - and it worked- the Greek language
in Setup > Global Options __/ Languages \__. I had tried - and did it
again after your post - to change it to ANSI - USA and Western Europe
but the problem remains. It looks that there is a conflict between
Sailwave and another application or Windows update but I don't know
where and how to search for it.

I' am using the program since 2005 and I did not have any problem
please check the following
• From menu Setup – Global Options, tab Language choose Greek, στο tab
Code/Discard formatting,
• From tool bar press the font button and then choose MS Sans Serif
In the following links you can find some helpful instructions

Thank you Vasilis.

I set MS Sans Serif as Greek font and it worked.
After that, trying to find out what exactly happened I experimented a
lot with several computers (all with Windows XP) and Saiwave versions
and I found the following:
In computers with Sailwave version 194 or earlier there is no problem
with Greek fonts. The font is set to Arial True Type and it works
perfectly.
In Computers where I installed Sailwave version 195 only the MS Sans
Serif, MS Serif and Fixedsys Greek fonts are displayed correctly. No
Greek True type fonts is displayed. The problem persisted even after
I uninstalled the Sailwave 195 version and installed an earlier one
again.
Any way, I am not going to spend more time for that problem as I can
do my work with this solution.
Thank you - and Phil – for your help.

Hi Terry

Sorry but this is one area that SW does not cover

I run a lot of team racing events & may be able to help with alternatives

What is your format/event?

A copy of the SIs would be helpful

If Sailwave doesn’t do Team Racing you may like to try the Sail 100 program which does (although I have not used it for Team racing).

As a general program it seems simpler than Sailwave although not always obvious how to do things, but does most things that an average club would need, new features are regularly added and is used by Cork Week and until 2 years ago by Dart Week.

IRL is :

http://www.sail100.org/

It is free and written by Bob MacPherson in Torbay who works very hard to keep it up top date.

For RDYC Racing I have not been persuaded of the advantages of changing to Sailwave.

Try it,

Norman.
