Problem with V2.8.5?

I used V2.8.5 today for the first time in earnest scoring our very popular Frostbite Series.
I encountered several problems, some of which I need to replicate next week so that I can note down the exact circumstances that caused the errors.
However, one immediate problem seems to be with the drop down box in Sail Number Wizard that can be used to select a retirement code. It doesn't contain all the scoring codes (especially missing is RET), even though they all appear in the scoring codes tab under scoring system.

Anyone else noticed this or could it be a problem my end?

Stewart

Stewart,

I've used Sailwave in this version (on Ubuntu, under Wine), but hadn't noticed this problem (not had the necessity to score anyone RET).
I also have 2.8.5 on a Win7 PC

Checking as a result of your email confirms your report of missing scoring codes using the scoring wizard, in both installations.

I note that also doing `Edit Result' also does not give RET as an option - only RAF

Hi Malcom,

Are you saying that RAF is displayed instead of RET. If so is this an old series or one that has been copied. Sailwave will not change the scoring codes in existing series unless you change them (I’m sure you woldn’t want this to happen). If you create a new series there should be an RET and no RAF.

Regards

Jon

Hi Stewart,

I saw your email last night while I was down in Cornwall and thought to myself - I hadn’t changed that so had to give it a try and it appeared that the problem was actually that the drop down box with the codes does not scroll. So when I got home about Midnight I couldn’t go to bed without having a quick look at the code. I also tried it under XP at home. On the Win 7 the scroll bar would not move on the XP the scroll bar moved but not text scrolled. The drop down box is programmed to be a size of 10. After some investigation it appears to be a compiler issue but will look into, it in greater detail later. If I disable the option to be able to test if a code is being entered it scrolls OK. As I haven’t changed this code (at least I’m not aware I have) the question is did it work in previous versions and if so at what version did it stop working (Need to know if the drop down scrolls if you have more than 10 possible scoring codes)

Jon,

Using 2.8.5 (with Win7)., I created a new series with one competitor, and selected SNW. Selecting the down arrow for codes, only a set of 10 codes appear, not inc RET. Possibly that code window isn't opening big enough?

Thanks Malcom,

Yes there is an issue where the drop down does not scroll. It is set to a size of 10, but should scroll if there are more than 10. I’m curious to know when this went wrong or if it has always been this way as it’s not something I have changed (at least not deliberately).

Jon,

I powered up an old laptop today, which I sometimes use for scoring at a venue. It has SW 2.4.5

This version's Sail No. Wizard shows the same behaviour as the more recent versions - only shows 10 items, doesn't scroll.

So its nothing new.

Thanks Malcom,

I’ve spent a couple of evenings this week trying to fix it - But no solution, it all stems from the fact that an event has to be generated for each key press so as to decide if you are entering a code or a time etc. If I turn that event generation off - it scrolls fine. The documentation tends to infer that if you switch the event generation on its up to you to refresh and scroll the dropdown but it doesn’t say how to do it. Done lots of Googling but to no avail. If it was in my normal language I could do it no trouble. The best solution I’ve come up with at the moment is to allow the dropdown box to be up to 20 entries, this means that its an unusual scoring system to have more than 20 codes. You can still type them in just can’t select them from a dropdown box. So the next release will have the 20 size dropdown. Hopefully this will help but I think its always been that way, not something I’ve broken!.
