Problems merging races

I have successfully merged races over the past few years until this set. I have been unable to merge these race files (2-13-16 and 16043) into a series of 9 races for the season. I had to manually make some entries in the merged series to make it come out correctly (the … lake cumulative file). I use Merge/match competitors and append races/results as the merge option (shown in merge options image). Stumped…

So, what is wrong?

Thank you,

Michael Dobrzensky

Hi Michael - you have a lot of excluded competitors - If you turn off the display of Excluded competitors it works fine and it also works fine if you don’t have excluded competitors in the file you are merging. Do you agree?

If you want to delete excluded competitors you can delete just excluded competitors by making sure they are displayed and then from the delete competitors menu select excluded competitors.

Hi Jon - Thank you for the quick response.

When I merge I turn off the display of excluded competitors - bid not help. Anyway, I did delete the excluded competitors and it worked - better. Now, for those competitors who did not compete on 4/3 (mono<100 and the single multihull), their results are blank. Shouldn’t the Mono<100 be 5.0 DNC and the multihull be 2.0 DNC? I attached the merged series.
Thanks again - Michael

Hi Michael,

Sailwave is working as I would expect with your file.

Because you are scoring by division, the results are blank for

the Divisions Mono<100 & Multihull because no competitors
raced in these two divisions so Sailwave effectively decides that
those races did not take place for them.

Something else I spotted in your merged file is that all races

are set for place finish not finish time.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi Huw,

I appreciate your help, bear with me please.

You said that in the merged file, all of the
races are set for place finish, not finish time. Not sure how to change
that? I can go to ‘View’ and select Show
result cells as: Finishes (place/elapsed-time/finish-time/code), which then
shows the finish times. But when I hit
score series or rescore, they revert to finish place. Must be something I am missing?

Again, thanks

Michael

That is the function of Score - to rank competitors in terms of
the criteria - elapsed times or (in the case of handicapping)
corrected times or finishing places.

Hi Michael,

No problem. To change a race from Place Finish to Finish Time you

need to edit the race information for each race in this file so
that start times are maintained.

To change from Place finish to Finish time, right click the race

column header and select the only option Edit Race. Arrowed 1 in
image below

···

In the window that pops up, edit the start arrowed 2 in image
above

In the window that pops up click the down arrow, arrowed 3 in

above image and select Finish

Click OK in eac window to back out. Then score and you will now be

calculating corrected times and positions based on corrected
times.

You seem to have been editing the race start information to enter

the start times for each race, so hopefully the above will be
slightly familiar.

You can also edit race data via the Sail Number Wizard when

entering the finish data for each race by clicking the button in
the Sail Number Wizard first window.

  Kind regards,

  Huw
