Apologies for delay in replying to some messages; very busy getting Sailwave
into the 'shape' that I have always wanted. This is so I can start
documenting it; the basic philosophy is implemented now. That is there is a
flat database of competitor information, information about how they sailed
(starts), and information about how to score them in various ways. Most of
the race fields are not in the start records and the 'fleets' have gone
completely. In their place is the ability to choose a field to score by and
also the ability to specify what discards to apply etc when a field has a
particular value. This is a generalisation of the fleet concept - e.g. in
old way you could define a fleet called lasers such that when scoring by
fleet the laser fleet did not have a rating system. Now you create a
scoring rule to say 'when scoring by fleet and the value is lasers, set the
rating system to none. This means you can also create rules like ' when
scoring by class...', when scoring by 'age group...' etc etc.
When scoring by field - Sailwave get the competitors involved for each value
of the field and makes sure that across that value they all share a
compatible start. This means that you can't mix places and elapsed times
etc - but if it's logically possible you can do it.
Almost there; been working all weekend on it...
I envisage a Sailwave 'lite' version with no starts/scoring-rules capability
- i.e. it will score simple Appendix A/KE regatta perfectly well - and a
pay-for version with those two limitations taken out...

Most of the race fields are
not in the start records
*now* (not not) in the start records (race distance, course, wind str, wind
dir, ave wind etc).
