Hi folks: I was wondering how many users post results from the water
straight to a website? We tried it straight from Sailwave with mixed
results - garbage and blanks my computer colleague says.
Emails from Sailwave come up blank. I use Thunderbird.
Thunderbird doesn't have an outbox which prevented us trying this
other option.
I eventually emailed the results as an attachment. But even this
wasn't straighforward as the colleague's GMail couldn't receive the
attachment. Yet me sending it T'bird to T'bird worked OK.
Eventually what worked the best, and reliably, was to zip the file
saved by Sailwave. This got around incompatibilities in email
programs. Also reduced air time.
Anyway after all of this - which should have been checked out before
the regatta! - we were able to get race by race posting to the web.
We were using Air Cards - USB and PCMCIA, on laptops on each course.
XP Pro all up to date on both laptops.
So, do others have any experiences with direct posting, or race by
race posting to land where a person uploads to the site? An
intervening person seems to be a good idea if they are familiar with
Sailwave as it stops finger problems on finish boats getting posted on
the web. The on land person can also paper post at the Club.
It would be nice to streamline the process so that it worked out of
Sailwave. Are there any plans to change the publishing process,
perhaps to allow more tweaking of direct to web posting?
Thanks
Donald
Hi Donald
I wrote a post processor to take the output from Sailwave and process into a form that can go straight onto our website, you can see the results at:
http://www.llandegfedd.org.uk/sailing/results08.htm
I'd be happy to make that available to anyone who wanted it, although I did write it in Flash and it needs Adobe's AIR runtime, which is freely available but would need to be installed.
I also believe there are plans for more user customisable output formats which would be the correct way to go.
cheers
Tony

Donald,
Another way is to use FTP instead of email from within Sailwave.
Kind regards,

After upgrading to SP3 for Micro$oft XP and using the latest version
(1.95.11) I came across an issue when publishing results.
Specifically, when I publish using the e-mail (online) option, I end
up sending the email without any attachment. Any idea why the
attachment (which I believe is being generated) is not being
attached? - I get the message from the process that the email was
sent OK.
I didn't see this error for quite a while because due to weather un-
cooperation, we haven't had any races to score, or post! The emailing
of the attachment to the webmaster for posting went OK prior to the
upgrade to SP3. My guess is that SP3 introduced something that needs
to be accounted for - and that is beyond me.
Comments / suggestions would be great. (FTP'ing to the website is not
an option available to me).

Hi Bill: A late reply which may be past due! I had a similar problem
although I don't know if it is the result of SP3 which I'm running. I
could attach results and send them properly using Thunderbird to
Thunderbird. I tested this before a regatta. Surprise, during the
regatta there were no attachments. Turned out that the guy receiving
the email was using GMail. I never tried attachments before upgrading
to SP3. So it is unclear whether this is a Sailwave problem or an
email program dependent problem. I must try a different email program
- I believe there is something called Outlook! What were you using?

Yes Donald, I am using Outlook. I don't know if Sailwave uses the
Outlook outbox or if it generates it's own outbox. Everything worked
fine before the upgrade to SP3, then after the upgrade it didn't
work. My guess, blame it on Miscr$oft (it's easier that way). More
importantly, how does this get fixed?
Bill.

I have found that it is best to zip up the blw files before attaching
them irrespective of what email client you use. It seems tha say
Eudora to Eudora or Thunderbird to Thunderbird is OK unzipped but
sending from one client to a different one ends up with a corrupted
blw file. Stick to zips and all will be well.Graham Pinkney, St Mawes
