Publishing Results

How do I set up Sailwave so that I can publish results to a website? I
find the global menus quite confusing.

Cheers,

Nick

Top menu bar: 'Publish', 'Results'
then select what you want to publish: I usually use a 'Series Summary
Table' (all races) and 'Publish Individual Race Tables' (all sailed
races) with the Options 'Include a row containing race dates' and
'BCE' (so the punters can see how far behind the winner they were) and
my notes (usually wind strength/direction and sea state - so the
punters get their excuses).
Click 'Next' and select 'To a web page and upload to a web site using
FTP', putting in the relevant detail / passwords for the club's site
(ask your webmaster).
Then click 'Publish'.
Sorted!

Do you want to just create the Web page [1] or upload on line [2]?

[2] Setup+GlobalOptions+__/ FTP \__ and fill fields Server, User ID and Password

[1][2] Publish+Results > (change info as necessary) > Next >

[1] Destination select File and check file name, default should be c:\ProgramFiles\Sailwave\... .htm, I changed default to a more convenient c:\Users\Philippe\Sailwave\Results\... .htm

or
[2] Destination Select Website > Just give a unique file name (not existing on the destination server unless you want to overwrite an earlier version of the same file)
[2] WAIT, the connection takes some times (may be minutes) first message warning about it, second message confirms connection is establihed, click [OK] 3rd message confirms page is uploaded.

[1] after editing as necessary, you upload with an FTP software, like FileZilla (however, there is a procedure using just Windows Explorer)

Actually, with the help of a friend who is more computer literate
that I am, we managed to figure out this publishing thingy and have
posted it on our Club's website:
http://www.torontowindsurfingclub.ca/racing/wed_results/TWC_Wed_result
s.htm

I will post a link to the Sailwave website once we get all the
glitches sorted out and are happy with it.

What I'd really like help with now (and hasn't been answered yet) is
sorting out this discard profile. We have a 50% discard by the end of
the season (50+ races) - I'd like to know what's easier to use: a
formula (where (and how) do I enter the parameters), or a loooong
string of discards

Nick,

You can enter a formula/expression for the discard profile. If you hover the mouse over the discard profile entry box, you will get for a short while a description of what can be entered - this happens for all entry boxes. However the time the information is displayed is to short, Colin is looking at making it stay up as long as the mouse is hovering of the entry box. To view the help text for as long as you want press the F2 button whenever in an active window and you will get another window pop-up with all the help text appropropriate to that window, in the case of the Scoring Series window it is a lot of information as it is for ALL the options available under the Scoring Series window tabs! However to save you trawling through at this point, I have extracted the appropraite text for the Entry Qualification profile and Discard profile.

···

-------------------------------------------------------------
ENTRY Qualification profile (s/4+1)
Only needed if your SIs specify that competitors
must sail N races to qualify for a series. A comma
separated list of number of races needed to
qualify for the series when 1,2,3,4 etc races
completed etc; e.g. 0,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,2. The last
value is used if the number of races sailed is
greater then the number of entries in the profile. Alternatively the qualification profile can be
defined by an expression. Use s for the number
of races sailed and r for the number of races in
the series.
-------------------------------------------------------------
ENTRY Discard profile (s/2-1)
A comma separated list of discards when 1,2,3,4
etc races completed etc; e.g. 0,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,2.
The last value is used if the number of races
sailed is greater then the number of entries in the
profile. Alternatively the discard profile can be
defined by an expression. Use s for the number
of races sailed and r for the number of races in
the series; e.g. s/2+1. The result is truncated to
the nearest whole number and represents the
number of discards.

Sorry,

But I'm still REALLY confused about setting up the discard profile.
Where does Sailwave go to find the values for 's' and 'r'? If I have
a 50 race series with 35 competitors and a 50% discard by the end of
the series would just putting a discard formula of s/2 or r/2 be best
solution? Would a formula of s/2 show the discards on a weekly basis
when races are entered? How would that formula be different from r/2?
Would r/2 show discards weekly or just at the end of the series when
all of the race data has been entered. This is perhaps (for me at
least) THE most frustrating part of Sailwave!

Thanks for trying to help.

Cheers,

Nick Cox

Nick,

Sailwave automatically calculates the values for S & R

  • S = number of races sailed
  • R = number of races in series
    I have always used S.

Note - Sailwave truncates to the nearest whole number, so for example if s=25

with expression s/2 Sailwave will discard 12 races

with expression s/2 + 1 Sailwave will discard 13 races

with expression s/2 -1 Sailwave will discard 11 races

When you use the score series button Sailwave will automatically calculate the discards and show them in the series results; the formatting of the results that are discarded is configurable. To configure the formatting of the results go the Menu bar Setup then select the Code/discard formatting tab, I usually put the following

  • Default code format c [p] where c substitutes the scoring code if used for the race in question & p is the points associated with the scoring code as set up under the series scoring, e.g. DNF [21]
  • Discard form (d) where d is value of the discarded race, in the case of a finish position the points scored for that finish position, e.g. (21), and in the case of a scoring code (such as DNF) it will show according to default code format and this format, e.g. (DNF [21])
    Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Huw

ENTRY Qualification profile (s/4+1)
Only needed if your SIs specify that competitors
must sail N races to qualify for a series. A comma
separated list of number of races needed to
qualify for the series when 1,2,3,4 etc races
completed etc; e.g. 0,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,2. The last
value is used if the number of races sailed is
greater then the number of entries in the profile.
Alternatively the qualification profile can be
defined by an expression. Use s for the number
of races sailed and r for the number of races in
the series.

ENTRY Discard profile (s/2-1)
A comma separated list of discards when 1,2,3,4
etc races completed etc; e.g. 0,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,2.
The last value is used if the number of races
sailed is greater then the number of entries in the
profile. Alternatively the discard profile can be
defined by an expression. Use s for the number
of races sailed and r for the number of races in
the series; e.g. s/2+1. The result is truncated to
the nearest whole number and represents the
number of discards.

Actually, with the help of a friend who is more computer literate
that I am, we managed to figure out this publishing thingy and
have

posted it on our Club’s website:

I will post a link to the Sailwave website once we get all the
glitches sorted out and are happy with it.

What I’d really like help with now (and hasn’t been answered yet)
is

sorting out this discard profile. We have a 50% discard by the
end of

the season (50+ races) - I’d like to know what’s easier to use: a
formula (where (and how) do I enter the parameters), or a loooong
string of discards

Cheers,

Just tested while I was writing the previous message… and
nothing

happened.

Lessons learned…

  • When you receive message # 1 possible delay, click on OK.
    Otherwise the
second message (connection) is not displayed and the connection
    may

time out

  • After serveral trials, the file is NOT uploaded. Searching
    further, but
is works (slower, but the file is uploaded) with method [1],
    create

on HDD

and upload with FileZilla.

  • What if the destination folder is not the root folder? The
    system does
not accept a destination results/MyTestRace. htm … Suggestion
    is

to ask

also for destination folder on the Club (or Class) Website, or
at

least

convert the \ or / found in adress to change dir commands

Do you want to just create the Web page [1] or upload on line
[2]?

[2] Setup+GlobalOptions +__/ FTP __ and fill fields Server,
User

ID and

Password

[1][2] Publish+Results > (change info as necessary) > Next >

[1] Destination select File and check file name, default
should be

c:\ProgramFiles\Sailwave\ … .htm, I changed default to a more
convenient

c:\Users\Philippe\Sailwave\Results… .htm

or
[2] Destination Select Website > Just give a unique file name
(not

existing
on the destination server unless you want to overwrite an
earlier

version

of
the same file)
[2] WAIT, the connection takes some times (may be minutes)
first

message

warning about it, second message confirms connection is
establihed, click

[OK] 3rd message confirms page is uploaded.

[1] after editing as necessary, you upload with an FTP
software,

like

FileZilla (however, there is a procedure using just Windows
Explorer)

How do I set up Sailwave so that I can publish results to a
website? I

find the global menus quite confusing.

Cheers,

Nick
