After a few years of scorekeeping I have been re-recruited. We are
having a one start mixed class and handicap series and I want to
publish from the open handicap results four separate results sheets
without having to do each group separately. I recall that there was a
way of doing this but cannot find it. The four groups being Laser,
Topper, Fast handicap and Slow handicap. I need to publish the overall
handicap results and each of the four extracted separately, the Average
Lap Time prcedure being used.
You can use aliases to produce the results you are wanting.

An alias is a second record for the same boat. May be in the same group or another one.
To create an alias, create a new competitor with specific data and select “this is an alias of another boat” and select the original one.
In a ranking in fleet 1, the record for boat A will be as for A1, while in fleet 2, the record for boat A will be as for A2…
See http://www.detroy.org/documents/sailwave/EuroMicro2007.blw (to understand the example, display also excluded boats)
An exemple, I’m sailing a boat BEL-203 “Jamais CCIII” in the Micro Class, but I chartered RUS-104 “Verba” under sail number BEL-104 for the Russian Open 2007.
In the European ranking, my result in Moscow was recorded on Verba, but the points go to Jamais CCIII…

Can you use this for dealing with the problem of sailors of uncertain ancestry who persist in using different sail numbers during the season for the same boat?

Of course…
I’ve also the problem of boats with different numbers in the spinnaker (exchangism is part of the tradition of our Class, at least for spinnakers).
So a second boat is entered with the other sail number, but in the official results only the original one will appear.
Naturally, there could be conflicts, when I’m sailing as BEL-203 but with a mainsail POL-58 loaned by my NED friend Renan, while he’s using the original spinnaker with POL-58 on his NED-17.
Sailwave accepts such conflicts (French FReg refuses)… Then if you are using the competitor wizard andchoose NOT to display the competitors already entered, in the unusual case I’m finishing in front of him, the first time POL-58 is entered (normally the mainsail), Sailwave displays the conflict and asks to solve manually. Then if POL-58 is entered another time, it will be alotted to the other boat. If the first entry was wrong, the second will be too.
What I’m not sure is whether a conflict will be displayed for POL-58 if the first entry is NED-17 (or BEL-203, why not?). Sorry, my spinnakers are not BEL-203, only BEL-284 and BEL-183…

Alias works the other way. It enables you to create a new fleet out of existing competitors using the result from the original boat to calculate the position in the new fleet. It is useful for scoring subclasses such as first female, double handed, etc.
