Publishing to Word problem

Hi: I publish to Word for it gives me more control of output than when I use html. We are all odd in our own ways!
I've setup Word for font, orientation, margins, etc and changed the Normal template to suit. When I start Word it works perfectly. But when I do it through Sailwave all the settings are overwritten and I get portrait, normal margins, etc.
Does anyone know how to stop Sailwave doing this?
I could use Firefox and html but the event jpgs don't work properly, unless IE works?
It wastes time every time I want to print results.
Thanks.
Donald

Hi Donald,

I have never published to Word, done so to Excel, so sorry can't

help on that front. However, I am interested in your comment "* I
could use Firefox and html but the event jpgs don’t work properly,
unless IE works?* "; what do you mean event jpgs don’t work
properly, please?

I have never had problems with displaying event & venue logos.

The way I do them is to have the logos in the same folder as the
.BLW and just have the file name in the logos field. Then to have
them display on a website have the same logos in the same folder as
the HTML file is on the web server.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hello Huw: Thanks for comments. At the moment I cannot get Firefox
to display the usual jpgs across the top. One must have the event
Sponsor! I just get text saying image and right clicking on it
doesn’t produce an image. Odd.
So I tried IE 9 which I never use. Lo and behold it works perfectly
with the Title and jpgs adequately positioned. It wont remember
landscape but does remember the margins and headers and footers.
What I’ve done is to combine three jpgs and insert it as the Event
burgee. So the image pushes the Title over to the left and it looks
reasonable. So, progress I think! I’ve attached a somewhat cut down
jpg and the blw which at the moment is a partial competitor list.
I will maybe give Excel a try to see if I like it and it gives more
control over layout.
Thanks.

Hi Donald,

I have attached a slightly modified version of your Sailwave file

for you to try with using Firefox as your default browser. I have
changed the name of the logo file to be JUST the file name and not
the full path name; IE because it is Microsoft handles full path
name but Firefox does not.

Also I as I sail in my previous message if you just have log file

name and have the logo in the same folder as the Sailwave file it
will work locally on your PC and if on a website if the logo and
HTML file are in the same folder.

All the best with your event.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hello Donald,

Publishing to Word and Excel is sometimes difficult, because MS-Office interprets some html-code different to web-browsers and often does not understand javascript.
You use Sailwave-version 2.5.1, which MS-Word-version do You use?

I use Word 2007 and Sailwave 2.5.1 with javascript templates. I use javascript to translate terms to German. In the beginning I hoped, that I can publish without post-editing.
But …
• direct publishing to Word or Excel produces a lot of failures like missing lines and bad arrangement of graphics/burgees.
• publishing to a html-file on the disk and using this file in Word does not work better, still all javascript produced lines will not be displayed and confused graphic arrangement.
• the best results I'll get with publishing to my standard Browser (Firefox – actual version) and saving this file with firefox (whole page/all/complete) to the disk.

Then I give the document the last tweak with MS-Word. Therefore I open the saved firefox-html-file with MS-Word and run a word macro witch copies the content of the html-file in a new Word-document basing on a special prepared word-template with burgees, orientation, margins, etc. That's a stopgap, because I couldn't manage correct arrangement of graphics (burgees) from the html code to word. The definitions for "hardleft" and "hardright" won't work in word. I didn't succeed to arrange graphics in word with html-code besides the text.
My word macro copies the whole content of the html file to a new word document, except the top event and venue burgees. Those I have attached to the word-template; the macro-code is:

Sub Sailwave_to_word()
'
' erstellt von paulesgps am 08.05.2011
' modifiziert von paulesgps am 12.5.2012
'
' erweiterte Version
'
` Definitions:

    Dim c As Word.Cell
    Dim NeuerFileName As String

` in the first line are the graphics, copy (to clipboard) should start in the second line:

    Selection.MoveDown Unit:=wdLine, Count:=1
    Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdLine
    Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdStory, Extend:=wdExtend
    Selection.Copy

` the next command opens a new Wordfile with my special template,
` You must adjust this to your file-system and word-template (*.dot or *.dotx file)

    Documents.Add Template:= _
        "C:\Users\Paulespgs\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\WSC_Regatta.dotx", _
         NewTemplate:=False, DocumentType:=0

` in my template the frame with graphics is attached to the first paragraph,
` to paste after the first paragraph:

    Selection.MoveDown Unit:=wdLine, Count:=1

` paste the copied part to the new word file and set the cursor back to the first line:

    Selection.PasteAndFormat (wdPasteDefault)
    Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory

End Sub

Cheers

Christof

Thank you Christof. I will go and digest all of this! I use Word
2007.
I’ve just been through a regatta and done all the usual things to
get results on the wall - constantly tweaking Word or Excel to get
results to fit on a page.
Some automation will be useful. Thanks.

Hi Donald,
if You are interested I'll send You by PM the full word-macro, which I use to squeeze as much as posible on word pages.
Christof

Ooh! Thank you. Try I haven’t looked in detail at your earlier post for I’m
decompressing post regatta. I even had a problem sending out the
Excel file of results. Looked perfect on screen, sent it out and the
Crew names column disappeared. I happened to look at the email in
the Sent Folder. Strange times and I’m stone cold sober. Thanks again.
