PYS returns to RYA and individual race ratings

WE have just switched to using Sailwave to do our club handicap series scoring. One of the many reasons we switched is so we can more easily upload returns to the RYA. However, at our club you can sail a Laser with different rigs per race in the series. I have been accommodating this by setting the competitor’s class as Laser and getting the standard Laser rig PYS by default and then manually overriding the race PY when either 4.7 or Radial rig is sailed.

I am expecting this to cause “issues” with the RYA results upload plugin? What do other clubs do in this situation?

Another question I have is, we are using competitor aliasing to split out individual fleet results from the main handicap results for certain classes. However I have not found a way for a single competitor to switch boats inside a single series. So if, say a 505 sailor sails a Laser on some races because he had no crew then I have to enter him twice as two separate competitors in the handicap race, and of course the results are not merged. Has anyone found a way of coping with a single competitor sailing multiple types of boat?

I'm not sure if this will work with your aliasing, but in the same way that you manually override your Laser ratings, you can do the same between a 505 and Laser. ( set "Rating for this race" ).

When a competitor sails a different boat we change the handicap in race rating and place a comment in the notes column, eg as visible in http://www.islandbarn.org.uk/files/results/2014-2015%20Winter//handicap-autumn-PM.html.

This isn’t really very satisfactory as it gets quite time consuming to separate out the different classes at the end of the season when I do personal handicap calculations and so on, but its the best option I’ve come up with.

I suppose an extension that would make it easier would be to be able to have another alias like feature that would make it possible to combine results from two or more boats into a single alias, but that sounds much easier to talk about than to code…
