Races to qualify'

We recently had a one day series of 3 races with 2 to qualify. There were 26 competitors. In the afternoon, one of our top Comet sailors came along, sailed one race, came first, then did not race further, thus did not qualify. Sailwave scored him with less points than several other competitors who did qualify and the published results are therefore incorrect as not having qualified, he shouldn’t be scored. Can v1.47 now deal with ‘races to qualify’ (I’m still using v1.45 as I’m not sure I can cope with getting to grips with a new-fangled version - will it affect stuff I’ve already done?). How can I get Sailwave to score the series without awarding points to those who do not qualify? It would be a shame to exclude them as if they had never been part of the field and sailed on the day.

Regards
Keith

Hi Keith,

Qualifiction is getting near the top of the list, but it’s not there yet. One way to deal with it but without with a specific qualification feature is to treat DNC as ‘infinite’ points (pick a number - e.g. competitors-in-series+100) then anybody who just turns up for one race will be at the bottom of the pile… I have argued previously that because of this a specific qualification feature is not required, but I lost,

Don’t worry about upgrading to 1.47 - each release is always backwards compatible in that older series can always be opened and scored - it’s just that there are more features to use should you need them. I know you publish to excel and that is still there - it’s just generalised to publish to any program - you just have to pick excel… Having picked it, Sailwave will remember it thereafter…

Regards,

Colin

…Actually, I’ll put a qualification profile in beta5, I just have to review George’s messages on the subject first… CJ

Yeah, but Sailwave will still publish his points, as with everyone else who scored DNC in a series but nevertheless qualified. Better that if criteria not met, then in Pts column it prints ‘DNQ’ (Did not qualify) or perhaps FTQ (Failed to qualify). or perhaps, better still, scores no points for that competitor. Would also be useful to print a bottom line statement when scoring a series to the effect ‘N sailed, N-1 qualified’

You’re right, you’ll not get the presentation you require, but it will solve the problem mathematically until I get the qualification stuff done…
