Rating File

Hi,

I am having a problem getting the ratings file to work for our new series.

Attached is my Rating file and the template for the series. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Mark

Hi Mark,

I have had a look at your files and I could not spot anything

obviously wrong. But having done the following I have got your
ratings into the Sailwave file:

  • Opened the CSV file using Excel and re-saved in CSV format

using the CSV (MS-DOS format) - there are several CSV formats
available when doing a Save as other formats in Excel
  • Put the CSV file in a folder all on its own so I knew I was

just hopefully reading the values from it
  • Changed the path in Set-up Global options to point to the

folder with my newly saved copy of your CSV file
  • Closed Sailwave and then re-opened using the Sailwave file you

    sent.
  • clicked scoring system on the toolbar and selected the Rating

    tab
  • in the rating window I checked the box near the bottom left

next to the words “Auto set competitor ratings
  • then clicked OK
  • then clicked the score series button on the toolbar and all

    the ratings were set.
I suggest that you create a Sailwave folder under your user name or
under the Public folder and in this create a sub-folder called
Ratings and place your ratings file in it. Then change in Sailwave
the path to the ratings folder by selecting Set-up | Golbal options

Folders tab. I suggest this because when one upgrades Sailwave
using a full install version all the contents of the Sailwave folder
and its sub-folders are deleted, so any customisations or special
ratings files with disappear.

I also suggest that after you have got the ratings into the Sailwave

file you turn-off the automatic rating updates .

I hope you find this useful.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi Hugh,
Thanks for your help but I still can’t get it to work! I must be having a senior moment. The Sailwave file seems to be retaining the PY numbers from the previous series, I used the “New series using one of your series” and I have tried setting up a New series from scratch but then I just get a solid line on the drop down for class. I have even deleted the old series numbers from my pc and still they stay!!! You will see in the Global Options the file path is blank but the old series PY’s are still there.

I have attached both Sailwave files for the Summer Series and my Ratings file again.

Regards

Mark

Hi Huw,

Further to my last e-mail I have gone back to using my old windows lap top and got the ratings file to work ( mostly!!), saved to Dropbox and opened on my MacBook and it is working. My laptop is running v 2.16.7 and the Mac v 2.18.5. If I try a new file it is not working, on the class dropdown I get a blank, no classes.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Whoops - I forgot to ask about what environment you were running

Sailwave under. I will check later Sailwave and rating files on my
Linux system which is much closer to a Mac than PC.

Pleased you have had some success although not complete success.

Some things to check - on the Mac:
  • click View on menu bar

  • click View property bar and make sure there is a tick mark

    beside the words

  • the last line of the data in the property shows how many

    rating values Sailwave read
If the last line shows 0(zero) then on start-up Sailwave has not
found a rating file to read or it did not like the file for some
reason. In the former case it is a question of checking that the
path to the folder holding the ratings file is correctly pointing to
the Dropbox location. This is done from Setup | Global options. Hint

  • Global options applies to all Sailwave files on the that device, i.e .
different devices can have different Global options ( in your case
they can be different between the PC and Mac) and they are not
stored in the Sailwave.BLW like most other settings but in the
Windows Registry on PC and same on Mac running WINE.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Huw

Hi Huw,
I have checked and the start up seems not to like the file. The path seems ok to me but the properties is showing zero in ratings. How do I check or install the ratings in Wine?
