Rating files

i decided to leave the wavy line. trying to
satisfy conflicting requirements.

  as it stands - the drop down has classes already in the series at

the top for quick selection. i find this useful.

  the rest of the drop-down is from the rating file - limited to

those rating systems you have set up in the scoring system if you
have done so - again useful to not show Texel for .e.g when not
using it. But - this breaks the locator (typing letter - locate)
because of the double tired list - so leave the wavy line selector
there which can be used to get classes into the series for the
first time.

  I could merge the drop-down so it not split into two but then

classes already in the list as not so visible - but you could
locate to them…

  swings and roundabouts.

  if you type something into the class box the rating is updated now

(that was the original bug) - and typing is often faster than
selecting…

Wavy line still there …

    The search for ratings seems limited to the existing boats

not the whole list of ratings. Relevant as search for scorpion
involves scrolling down to find class. Using wavy line would
have jumped to ‘S’ readily

Oh dear, more tweaks for next build :frowning:

            this is how the class drop down now works:-

            class already used in file, value

                          class already used in file,

value

                          class already used in file,

value

            etc ...

            spacer line

          class from rating file, value

          class from rating file, value

          class from rating file, value

            etc ...

            that way the classes already used in the series are

there for easy access at the top of the list and those
that have not been used can be selected by just
scrolling down.

            i've remove the wavy line selector all together.

eek!

            Sorry Ian and Jim et al. It was a bug. Fixed now in

2.03 build 3 on website.

            When you type in a class and click/tab away or select a

class from the drop-down, the rating field auto updates
ok now. it uses existing competitors first (in case
you’ve tweaked the value in the rating files) and if not
found uses the rating files.

            you can also use the selector (wavey lines) to select

classes that don’t exist in the series yet and it uses
the value from the item you selected.

            can't explain the "105" yet - i'll look later.

                      I attach both the .blw file and the

Ratings file. One thing which puzzles me
about the log file is that it says it has
loaded 103 ratings, but there are rather more
than that in the file!

                      When I set up a new competitor, I use

the drop-down list of classes in the
Competitor window, but to get the Handicap
field populated, I have to click on the wavy
blue line. The window to the Handicap file
opens with the right class selected, and when
I click on OK, the handicap field in the
competitor window is populated – so I think my
problem is the same as Jim’s.

                      I would be interested if you can

suggest a way of getting back to having the
handicap field filled in automatically – I’m
sure I had that when I first started using
Sailwave!

Regards,

Ian Day

files

                          jim, can you attach your sailwave file.

i agree you should have to connect each
rating by hand - the auto facility will do
it for you (or should) as long as the
class names match up of course…

Ian Frogley has been trying to help me but to no avail.. I have now downloaded version 2.03 build 2. I have deselected the connect to internet option. I have selected the auto set competitor ratings and RYA Portsmouth in Scoring System. I have put a ratings file into a new folder and linked to it from Global options. On opening a competitors details the ratings file has clearly been accessed as all the PY ratings are there. But they don't follow through to the competitors, to update the competitors' ratings I would have to do each one manually by clicking on the blue wave icon. No different from when I started.
