Rating files

HI
I seem to have managed to download a rating file correctly. I can now change the PY numbers in my files but I still have to go into each racer individually click on the blue wavy lines and then select the appropriate class. This is quicker than doing it manually but not much.
Is it possible to update all boats in a given file automatically or by one action?
Please if yes explain in simple terms not technospeak!!
Thanks
Jim

I think I'm right to say that you should select 'Auto set competitor ratings' in 'Setup/Scoring system/Rating system.'

Thanks Ian, I have done that but no change. I seem to have done something in that now every time I open Sailwave I get a message saying <Cannot connect to ftp.sailwave.com> would that make a difference? The ratings file is on my computer so I didn't think so but I didn't used to get that message.

I am seeing the same behavior. I emailed Colin to ask if it was a bug,
but I am sure he is a very busy guy. :slight_smile: it took me forevever to
figure out the squigly blue line thing I was selecting classes with
the dropdown list and it didn't populate the ratings at all.

There were some server changes today which might have caused that but I just uploaded to sailwave site no probs. Which release are you using (im still on 2.06b but 2.07 was released yesterday and could have a bug?

Can you post a file for us to look at?

That message is probably because you’ve turned
on the automatic “check for upgrades” and for some reason it
cannot connect. Check if you have indeed turned it on in the
Setup+GlobalOptions menu Upgrades tab.

  Use Help+LogBook to see if Sailwave is loading ratings and where

from. Use the “Copy to clipboard” to grab the content of the
logbook and send it in a message so we can see what’s happening.
There is no private information in it.

  The blue wavey line is explained in the help file.

  If the ratings are set up correctly the rating should get set when

a class is selected from the list. Though it has gone through
some quirky times.
Alternatively you can turn on the auto update ratings thing in the
scoring system and Sailwave updates ratings when it scores.
It’s useful to attach a sailwave file (.blw) and the content of
the log book to help us find solutions.

I have checked that in Upgrades the connect to internet option is selected. The ryapn file is in C:/Program files/Sailwave/Ratings (it is an excel file as that was the only way to download it from the Sailwave site but it is Excel .csv as far as I can tell. Ian Frogley has been trying to help me but to no avail. I have now downloaded version 2.03 build 2. I have deselected the connect to internet option. I have selected the auto set competitor ratings and RYA Portsmouth in Scoring System. I have put a ratings file into a new folder and linked to it from Global options. On opening a competitors details the ratings file has clearly been accessed as all the PY ratings are there. But they don't follow through to the competitors, to update the competitors' ratings I would have to do each one manually by clicking on the blue wave icon. No different from when I started.

jim, can you attach your sailwave file.
i agree you should have to connect each rating by hand - the auto
facility will do it for you (or should) as long as the class names
match up of course…

I attach both the .blw file and the Ratings file. One thing which puzzles me about the log file is that it says it has loaded 103 ratings, but there are rather more than that in the file!

When I set up a new competitor, I use the drop-down list of classes in the Competitor window, but to get the Handicap field populated, I have to click on the wavy blue line. The window to the Handicap file opens with the right class selected, and when I click on OK, the handicap field in the competitor window is populated – so I think my problem is the same as Jim’s.

I would be interested if you can suggest a way of getting back to having the handicap field filled in automatically – I’m sure I had that when I first started using Sailwave!

Ian Day

Ian Frogley has been trying to help me but to no avail. I have now downloaded version 2.03 build 2. I have deselected the connect to internet option. I have selected the auto set competitor ratings and RYA Portsmouth in Scoring System. I have put a ratings file into a new folder and linked to it from Global options. On opening a competitors details the ratings file has clearly been accessed as all the PY ratings are there. But they don't follow through to the competitors, to update the competitors' ratings I would have to do each one manually by clicking on the blue wave icon. No different from when I started.

  Sorry Ian and Jim et al. It was a bug. Fixed now in 2.03 build 3

on website.

  When you type in a class and click/tab away or select a class from

the drop-down, the rating field auto updates ok now. it uses
existing competitors first (in case you’ve tweaked the value in
the rating files) and if not found uses the rating files.

  you can also use the selector (wavey lines) to select classes that

don’t exist in the series yet and it uses the value from the item
you selected.

  can't explain the "105" yet - i'll look later.

Colin

I’ve downloaded 2.03b4 but it appears as build 3. Not sure whether it is in fact build 4

Regarding the amendments to entering boat class, the list of existing ratings shows all boats entered, not just unique classes. Eg there are 5 mirrors in the file being tested and mirror appears 5 times.

Ian, Jim at al,

uploaded another version 2.03 build 4 that is better.

this is how the class drop down now works:-

class already used in file, value
class already used in file, value
class already used in file, value
etc …
spacer line
class from rating file, value
class from rating file, value
class from rating file, value
etc …

that way the classes already used in the series are there for easy access at the top of the list and those that have not been used can be selected by just scrolling down.

i’ve remove the wavy line selector all together.

Colin

    I've downloaded 2.03b4 but it appears as build 3. Not sure

whether it is in fact build 4

    Regarding the amendments to entering boat class, the list of

existing ratings shows all boats entered, not just unique
classes. Eg there are 5 mirrors in the file being tested and
mirror appears 5 times.

    I've downloaded 2.03b4 but it appears as build 3. Not sure

whether it is in fact build 4

    Regarding the amendments to entering boat class, the list of

existing ratings shows all boats entered, not just unique
classes. Eg there are 5 mirrors in the file being tested and
mirror appears 5 times.

            this is how the class drop down now works:-

                          class already used in file,

value

                          class already used in file,

value

            etc ...

            spacer line

          class from rating file, value

          class from rating file, value

          class from rating file, value

            etc ...

            that way the classes already used in the series are

there for easy access at the top of the list and those
that have not been used can be selected by just
scrolling down.

            i've remove the wavy line selector all together.

            Sorry Ian and Jim et al. It was a bug. Fixed now in

2.03 build 3 on website.

            When you type in a class and click/tab away or select a

class from the drop-down, the rating field auto updates
ok now. it uses existing competitors first (in case
you’ve tweaked the value in the rating files) and if not
found uses the rating files.

            you can also use the selector (wavey lines) to select

classes that don’t exist in the series yet and it uses
the value from the item you selected.

            can't explain the "105" yet - i'll look later.

Wavy line still there …

The search for ratings seems limited to the existing boats not the whole list of ratings. Relevant as search for scorpion involves scrolling down to find class. Using wavy line would have jumped to ‘S’ readily
