Rating

I am possibly missing something, but when I enter
new competitors into a Sailwave file, they are sometimes sailing a
boat that isn’t in our ratings file. As most competitor boats are,
I use Autoset Competitor Ratings, but then I will come up against
the boat that isn’t listed. I then have the option of opening up
the rtings file and including the new boat and rating, or just
entering all the ratings manually.

Is there a way I can use Autoset, and only enter the new boat'

rating manually. I am especially asking as we are approaching our
Barts Bash event when we get a variety of unusual craft entering.

  IanF

. Autoset should enter the rating from the file, when creating
the new boat, but if it isn’t there, under Edit Competitor, the
rating can be entered manually.

Hi Ian - It should all work without using the auto set feature. The way it works is:-

When you start Sailwave it reads the rating files.

When you enter a new boat, if there is a boat of the same class in the Sailwave file it will use the rating for that class - it may be what is in the ratings file or it may be what you have manually entered.

If there is no boat of that class already in the file it will use the rating from the ratings file if it exists otherwise you enter it manually.

When you rescore the ratings don’t change they are just as you entered them.

If you set the Autoset tick box then when you rescore it will change all the ratings that you have in the Sailwave file to match those of the ratings file if they exist.

The idea is of the Autoset is really if the ratings are updated then it will auto update all the competitors.

I must be doing something wrong.

* When you start Sailwave it reads the rating

files.*

It doesn't seem to unless I have Autoset ticked

I imported the competitors from a csv file, then scored the race

without results to fill the ratings field.

The ratings file did not have a Contender listed (I deliberately

removed it!)

When I scored the series I got "Cannot find rating value for

PY/Contender in rating files".

The subsequent competitor ratings were not filled.

I then edited that competitor and manual entered the rating.

I then rescored but still got "Cannot find rating value for

PY/Contender in rating files"

I couldn't get past that problem without either editing the

ratings file to include the Contender, or to enter all the ratings
manually.

When I included the Contender in the ratings file then everything

worked fine.

Hi Ian, If you start Sailwave and the go Menu - Help - Log book. You should see an entry

showing what ratings have been loaded both the path (Set in Global options) and the number of ratings found

Now start a new series with a few competitors lets say 4 competitors and 1 race just to test

Edit one of the competitors and in the Boat Class click the dropdown

You will now see a list of all the classes for which Sailwave knows the ratings.

If you click on Laser you should see the Rating be filled in with 1097

If you edit this to 1095 and save the competitor

Now edit the next competitor and type in Laser for the class

You now see the Rating is filled in as 1095

You can then edit the next competitor and lets set the boat class as SAILWAVE (There is no class Sailwave in the ratings file)

I enter a rating of 999

Now edit a 4th competitor and type Sailwave in the Boat class field you will see that 999 is automatically entered in the Rating

Hope that helps

Am I missing a trick here? I always thought the easiest way to add a new competitor was to find a competitor with an identical boat and then click on "New Like” and amend the new details. That way everything is the same apart from the Helm, Crew and Sail number.

Hi Ian - Did you see my previous post - If you have a boat that is not in the rating file you can simply enter the rating.

If this is not the case for you could you please send me your blw file and rating files so I can investigate. But please test as my previous post and let me know if that works for you

For those that have been following this thread - I’ve just had a conversation with Ian and the issue arose from the competitors were being imported from a csv without a rating, as opposed to entering them in Sailwave. The solution I suggest here is - Import them and then tick the autoset box and score. It will populate the ratings until it finds one that is not in the ratings file. Exclude this competitor for the time being and rescore - repeating until the whole file is populated. So all the competitors that have ratings in the rating file will now be filled with the ratings from the rating files. Now untick the Autoset ratings and un-exclude the competitors which you had excluded - you can now manually add the ratings for these. Adding any new competitors with Sailwave will automatically pick up any ratings that have been used.

I see there is now a publish to xml option in the latest release.

I had a quick look in plugins. Looks like I can publish to sailing.today? But it uses an exe that it says isn’t there on my linux install.

Keen to make the joomla tool better. Publish to XML would be the solution - we’d hold it in the CMS database as XML for the event and then build the output on display.

Am I missing a exe? And will I be able to create something that would let it push an XML file to a web page (would be far cleaner than the current push to FTP, scan the FTP directory, strip the HTML in the FTPd files into a content article solution…

Hi Gilbert,

The Publish to XML can save to a file or it can run an exe with the parameter of the file.

The SendXML.exe file gets passed a parameter of the file to upload.

The standard SendXML was written for SailingToday but it is an incredibly simple VB.Net program

The code is shown below

You could supply your own version of SendXML and it will upload to your server.

You can then take the XML into SQL Server

The Publish to XML is currently only for one design classes as it does not publish times although if there is the demand I could extend it to support handicapping.

You can see what is produced by publishing to a file and examining the file.

What data gets published is controlled by the publish tick box for each column

Hope that helps

Jon
